The space
"The Japanese concept of wabi-sabi (侘寂) encapsulates the beauty of imperfection, transience, and simplicity, which can be interpreted as finding beauty in a well-lived life with its inherent flaws. Wabi-sabi is not just an aesthetic, but a way of viewing the world, embracing the natural state of things."
Bodhi House embodies this concept- rather than being "perfect" or "flawless," the space embodies the cracks, fissures, and imperfections of a well-loved house as it used to be our personal home before we had our second baby. You may see remnants of the crayon marks where our toddler drew on a wall or a burn on the floor where incense fell as we honored our ancestors.
If you are looking for perfection in the aesthetic sense- this is not it. If you are looking for bells and whistles- this is also not it. But if you want something simple, tranquil, and well-lived (read: well-loved), you are welcome to stay at Bodhi House.
Bikky and I are well-hosted and well-traveled. We are happy to host you at Bodhi House as we strive to provide an affordable refuge for you to unplug and connect. We moved to 29 Palms 3 years ago for a more peaceful life. We’re excited to share our gems with you.
Our home has 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms where travelers come to get away. There are no televisions in the property- this is intentional, inviting you to unplug if you choose to. (There is, however, WIFI for your needs:))
There is an additional sleeping space in the dining room: a screened semi-private room with a single bed. The master bedroom has three single beds and there are three bedrooms with queen-size beds. Writing desks in each room overlook the desert valley to inspire peace within you.
The main kitchen is equipped with the essentials so you can make sandwiches before heading into the park or cook a delicious dinner. We provide aromatic coffee and tea for you to enjoy.
The backyard is perfect for reading, relaxing, and star-gazing. On cloudless nights, you'll be able to see the gorgeous night sky that Joshua Tree is known for.
We hope you enjoy the down-to-earth feel at Bodhi House.
