"Property is well positioned close the river. Staff friendly and helpful. They welcome dogs, which is what attracted us in first place. Lovely walk along the river. Big car park opposite. Good restaurant with excellent food."

"We first stayed at this hotel in 1986 and gave re-visited several times since. The location is fantastic right in the centre and beside the public car park and lift up to the chateau. The hotel has been renovated and extended over the years and is now even has a roof terrace for chilling out in after a days touring/cycling. "Just brilliant. Le Grand Monarque was recommended by a friend in the UK who stays there regularly. He really did us a favour as it is a fabulous and very interesting hotel with exceptional staff (especially Natalie on Reception). The parking is great value at €7 per night and the breakfast was delicious and nicely varied. Located in the centre of the small town of Azay-le-Rideu this hotel is an absolute gem. "

"Wonderful hotel, walking distance from train station. Hotel decor is a bit eccentric, but very clean and updated. The staff is exceptional and will do anything to make your stay better. Breakfast is served with local produce from farms nearby and served on fine china with linen napkins. I would recommend this hotel to family and friends. "

"Arrivée tard dans la nuit , aide de la personne via l’interphone pour entrer, machine un peu compliquée mais tout s’est bien terminé. Petit déjeuner très bien, confort de la literie super ! Chambres très belles , pression de l’eau de douche parfaite , rien à redire ! "

"Everything was lovely. The bathroom was a little old and didn’t have a shower curtain so the floor got very wet. But it was a lovely stay. The room also had a bit of an overpowering smell of artificial cherry’s/berries which is fine. But just a little over powering with an artificial smell. But the room was very clean and if I was in the area I would stay here again! "
