The Hanging Coffins of Sagada

The Igorots believe that the dead gets closer to heaven by hanging their deceased along the crevices of hard to reach caves. The deceased is prepared by having the body sit on a chair and rituals done before the body is laid down in a fetal position for the final hanging burial. This is a 2000 year-old Igorot burial tradition.

The Igorots have a traditional name and a Christian/Common name. The traditional name is the one used on the coffins that are made of pine wood. #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines #Adventure
At our homestay, you can see the valley view and the mountains that surround this village. Interiors are also cold-proof coz its a log cabin inside. :-!
This was taken on one of my trips to the Philippines. Up in Sagada, Mountain Province.. High up there, you start to see that it is a fitting name.. High up and deep within the mountains, the town of Sagada is a popular tourist destination.. And I can see why, just look at the picture. Misty mountains and a golden sunrise, a beautiful combination. #Golden
