"We booked the hotel the day of the trip as we had change plans due to Typhoon Haishen. When we entrance to the hotel was blocked with a rope and they did not answer the phone. There was noone to get any information, we did not get a cancellation or a notification. We were left in the typhoon with nowhere to go and struggled to find anything for hours during when the weather got really bad. Single storey Japanese style cottages or rooms (new wing) surrounded by Japanese gardens and features. 4-5 private in door and outdoor onsens to choose from. "Yufuin is a really cute place for shopping that is also close to nature. My stay was very short but the Japanese style room was very comfy. The ryokan is near the train tracks so you will hear trains going by but it wasnt bothersome and they dont go on throughout the night or really early in the morning. The hosts are very nice and quiet. I have tattoos so it was really cool to have an onsen right at the ryokan because it can be a little tricky to find places that accept tattoos (they do exist...
