The room smelt of cigarette smoke (non smoking room), sexual lubricant found in a cupboard, batteries eroded in the remote, and to top it all a Christmas party on our last night, which kept us awake before our drive back to England. When I mentioned the smell of the room I was offered drinks tokens for the bar which buy you either larger or soft drinks. The staff didn’t seem too surprised with the lubricant or remote...

"The Detmolder Hof is one of the best addresses when it comes to accommodation in Detmold. They have been around since… I don’t know when, but my grandfather used to take us there for dinner when we were visiting and even my parents celebrated their wedding there in 1972. The hotel retained it’s old school charm and luxuriousness, but still feels up to date. The staff is wonderful as well: welcoming and accommodating. "This is a really interesting hotel choice. It is in a small town, and the hotel itself is ok. But it has muliple amazing indoor and outdoor pool areas attached, and also a separate huge spa with 12+ suanas and steam rooms, and relaxation gardens that you can use. Added to that there is a forest next to the hotel full of walking and jogging trails. It is a mini resort that comes free with staying. Massage and flotation tank are available at an additional charge. "
