We stayed at this Vrbo property in Grand Forks, BC, for five nights at an outrageous 1,100, expecting a decent vacation. The owner replied to texts quickly, which was the only thing that didn’t suck. The beds were fine, and the location was okay, but everything else was a complete letdown. This place was a total mess and a rip-off. The house stank of cat piss and litter, with linens reeking of cat and pet hair everywhere, including on dishes we had to scrub before using. It was obvious a cat lived there full-time, and an unlisted outdoor cat lurked around, meowing loudly and walking on the deck at night. This significantly disturbed our small, senior dog, who could hear the cat and spent the nights upset and barking, disrupting our sleep and causing stress. We were not informed about this outdoor cat prior to booking, which should have been clearly disclosed in the listing or by the host. The owner showed up daily to feed the cat, which was intrusive and annoying. They even tried to hit us with a pet fee after we’d paid, which was straight-up shady. The house felt like someone’s cluttered home, not a vacation rental, with personal crap—clothes, fridge food, jewelry, perfumes—scattered everywhere. Religious pictures and statues were all over, which was a turn-off. An Echo or Alexa device was clearly eavesdropping, which was creepy as hell. The listing flat-out lied about having three beds; we only got two. to be continued...
