"This house was perfect for our weekend visit to see our son at Michigan Tech. Jodi has thought of everything! There is a cute coffee /tea station stocked with several varieties of coffee and tea. There are creamers in the fridge along with various condiments and syrup. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, pans and utensils, so you can cook a meal for a family. There is a dishwasher with pods to wash and a full size washer and dryer with detergent. The beds are large and comfortable with new linens and bedding. It was great to have two full bathrooms, one on each floor The house is immaculate and decorated so well. The heated mudroom would be awesome after a day of skiing or snowmobiling. There is a screened-in porch area with a table and chairs in the back yard. The location is minutes from Mont Ripley and the Michigan Tech campus. The neighborhood is super quiet. We look forward to coming back! Jodi was so prompt with communication. It was a wonderful experience. "

"Cozy small stay perfect for two. Hot tub and spa were absolutley amazing besides the hot tub having a little gunk but there is a maintinence number posted for any issues. close to downtown and plenty of activities."

"I almost hesitate to give this a five-star review, because I don’t want the secret to get out – this is the best place to stay in Houghton! Our son is a student at MTU, so we are in the area numerous times a year. We have stayed at various other properties (both Airbnb’s and other hotels), but Independence Stay has become our go-to spot. The property is always immaculately clean, modern, and well-maintained. The staff is friendly. The rooms are comfortable, with just enough kitchen supplies to prepare simple meals. One thing to note ahead of time is that there is no elevator, so if you are on the second floor, you will need to take the stairs. Obviously not a deal-breaker for us, so we’ll be back the next time we’re in Houghton. "
