A visit to the historic center of Alghero is a must, unique in Sardinia for its genre and artistic influences: it is indeed one of the few inhabited centers that has preserved almost entirely its city walls, whose bastions are now one of the most beautiful and suggestive pedestrian walks, from which to admire fiery sunsets. The historic center is characterized by Catalan-Aragonese architecture with picturesque narrow streets, artisan shops, and workshops of red coral from Alghero, a native marine species known for its coloration and characteristics, which has given the city the name "coral riviera."
