Grimentz - charming chalet - sleeps 13 in 7 bedrooms
Chalet Etoile is a recently-renovated traditional wooden chalet of 260m2 over 3 floors. It sleeps 13 in 7 bedrooms (3 double, 3 twin and one single) with 5 bathrooms. The spacious open-plan living area on the middle floor leads out through French doors onto a south-facing terrace with fabulous views of the mountains. On the lower floor is a home cinema with 42” flat-screen TV, a wide selection of DVDs, Wii and karaoke. The chalet has Wifi. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to cater for your party including larder fridge, two ovens, Nespresso machine, 3 fondue sets and 2 raclette machines. There is a chest freezer on the terrace plus a small freezer in the TV room. For summer, there is a gas barbecue on the terrace. With underfloor heating, a wood-burning stove in the sitting room and two hot-water boilers to choose from, your warmth and comfort is guaranteed! The chalet is an easy 5-minute walk from the ski lift and shops of the village and the free ski bus stops within 50 yards of the chalet. There is parking for 2-3 cars.
Entertainment and eating out in Grimentz: If you want to self-cater, Grimentz has a large Co-Op plus a smaller village supermarket with a great deli. There is also a butcher with top-quality meat and live fish and deli options like cooked chickens, paella and raclette. There is a bakery/patisserie selling an extensive range of delicious fresh bread and pastries and tarts.
However, if you don't want to cater for yourself, there is a catering company in the village (Valet d'Anniviers) which will deliver delicious, home-cooked meals to the chalet, ready for you to serve. Alternatively, there are 5 hotels in the village with restaurants plus a pizzeria and a creperie - all within walking distance of the chalet - so you can eat somewhere different every night if you wish. Further afield are the Michelin-starred Terminus restaurant in Sierre in the valley plus the Bella Tola restaurant in St. Luc, both of which are well worth a trip. There are four bars in the village – Chez Florioz at the base of the pistes is the après-ski bar with live music, Bar Domino at the bottom of the village is a new, sleek bar with cosy sheepskin seats and great views, The Alpina Hotel in the centre of the village has an indoor bar plus a buzzy outdoor apres-ski bar with live music. Le Country (also in the centre of the village) is the late-night option and is right next door to the disco club Shaddock.
At peak times, the Shaddock disco takes over from Le Country and is open until the early hours.
Summer activities in and around Grimentz: There are endless opportunities to walk in the valleys and mountains of the Val d’Anniviers – anything from a stroll around the village or into the neighbouring villages to day-long hikes with lunch in a mountain cabane or longer trips staying overnight in the cabanes along the way. The chalet is equipped with several Guide Books for walks of every level.
There are also over 100km of mountain bike trails in the area and bikes can be hired in the village.
At nearby Vercorin (10km) is Switzerland’s biggest tree-top trail of zip wires and rope bridges and in Niouc (10km) is Europe’s biggest bungee jump. In Zinal (5km) you can hire giant-wheeled scooters to take up the mountain in the gondola and then race down! There is canyoning in the rivers of the valley and the rock-climbing experience of the Via Ferrata – a series of fixed metal hoops in the cliff face above the Lac de Moiry in Grimentz.
For calmer activities, there are tennis courts, mini-golf and a wonderful new swimming pool with spa area (including sauna, hammam and steam room) in neighbouring Zinal.
Getting there .. . and some rules: The closest main airport is Geneva from which the chalet is a 2 hour 15 minute drive or 3 hour train and bus ride away. You can also fly to Zurich (3 hour drive) or Basel (3 and a half hour drive) or even Milan (approx 3 hour train/bus). STOP PRESS! Sion Airport which is only 35mins drive or approx 45 mins on the bus is now hosting several flights a week from London City airport and other regional airports like Bristol, Manchester, Southend, Luton and Southampton! Check out Powdair.ski
All the major car hire companies operate from all the Swiss airports.
If driving, Grimentz is accessed from the main Valais Autoroute E62. Exit at junction 29 (Sierre Est) and follow the road up the mountain into the Val d'Anniviers. From Calais it is approx 8-9 hours' drive. You will need snow tyres and chains in the winter.
Please note the following rules to keep the chalet lovely:
No outdoor shoes (and definitely no ski boots!) in the chalet please - slippers provided. No smoking anywhere in the chalet. One well-behaved pet by agreement and at a weekly cost of £25 to cover the extra cleaning

Recently returned from a fantastic week in Grimentz. Typically Swiss and didn't see a lift queue all week! Had fantastic snow conditions with fresh powder for most of our stay!
The chalet is amazing. The quality of everything was very noticeable right from the start - from the furnishings to the kitchen knives and everything in between.
The place is spacious and the beds are really comfortable. The kids particularly enjoyed the tv and games area whilst the adults could unwind in the lounge.
And the views from the chalet are to die for!
This was a superb place for the Swiss and English sides of our family to meet and catch up. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this.
We are already contemplating coming back next year!

Extremely comfortable and well appointed chalet in a charming Swiss village. The property is clean and well looked after and just 5 minutes walk from the main lifts or 2 minutes in the free resort shuttle. The chalet is accurately described and the owner is very helpful and straightforward. The ski area is very good for off-piste itineraries as well as quiet and gentle piste skiing.

Perfect chalet... The hallway is a little bit too small when 10 people are going to ski in the morning : this is the only drawback of this dreamy place I could think of!!
First, the Chalet Etoile is very warmly decorated, typical Swiss style, with many unique details and objects. Location is perfect : 300m from the depart of main telecabine, 200m from fabulous bakery, supermarket and skishop, and the free shuttle is very practical if you don't want to walk one meter!
Second and most important : the owner was very helpful every step of the way so we could enjoy our stay. The equipment of kitchen and bathrooms is brand new and everything is working perfectly in the chalet. We were very comfortable and had plenty of space even with 6 toddlers hanging around at all times! -- we all loved the sunny terrace, the large dining table, the playroom, the easy parking, the soft mattresses, the calm, the DVDs, the fireplace, the books at disposal, the wifi, the drying machine etc etc.
(Also, the village and the ski slopes are very nice.)
Unforgettable stay and successful holidays thanks to Chalet Etoile!

We had a great week in Chalet Etoile and I would highly recommend the property.
As soon as you walk in the door it is obvious that the property is a much-loved, well-equipped, family home, rather than your average rental property.
There is a lovely sitting room with comfy sofas, wood-burning stove and lots of firewood. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped, with plenty of oven space. The beds are really comfy (unusually so). Lots of bathrooms and hot water, so no queuing in the mornings. All the rooms are beautifully furnished and well maintained.
We all felt so at home that we ate at home and stayed in every evening - unheard of for us not even to go out to the bar after dinner - sometimes watched a movie in the cinema room downstairs.
The property is a few minutes walk to the cable car, but not far enough to be an issue or for us to bother taking the free bus.
Nicola, the owner, was incredibly helpful and it was lovely to deal direct with her rather than via an agent.
Perfect property for us and we will definitely book again.

"WHY DIDN'T WE STAY AT CHALET ETOILE ALL SUMMER?", said the youngest Goodwin. "A week was not definitely not long enough" we all agreed. Perfect location, perfect layout, well-equiped throughout, great den for the kids, so much to do from tennis and mini golf in the village, cultural visits, mountain walks and hikes, swimming, climbing, scootering, high adrenaline activities, and more board games than we could ever play in a week. Restful and action packed. We picnicked and self catered, and made great use of the Pass Liberte. We walked, and bussed, and barely used the cars. Yippee! The valley was so peaceful at the end of the summer season, once the exciting Grand Raid was over. Majority Highlight of the week - Cabane Moiry hike. We can't wait to return .... to ski next time?.... Thank you Nicola and family for sharing your piece of heaven with us.

Chalet Etoile is exceptional. Practically it works brilliantly for 2 families - convenient, well equipped and ideally laid out. But that only tells half the story. The chalet is fabulously stylish, comfortable and every detail has been thought through to ensure the best possible stay. The owner is efficient and understanding and passed on many handy tips before we arrived. We would not hesitate to recommend this chalet.

A big family party with different needs/wants all catered for in this wonderful chalet, from the downstairs TV/games room to the relaxing family area and every kitchen utensil you could need (including raclette machines) . Boot drying room underfloor heating and luxury bathroom fittings, comfortable beds and immaculate linen and communal areas. Wi Fi and log burner and lots of homely touches kept everyone happy! An amazing view from every window and 2 minute walk to the old village and wonderful creperie, cake shop and butchers. Local supermarket 5 mins walk and gondola in walking distance (even with ski boots on!) the skiing was incredible , fresh snow and sunshine and local hire shop Val sport very helpful. We used ecole swiss ( Odile constance) was our wonderful ski instructor and there was something for all abilities to enjoy. The only down side to this property and location is that we have been completely spoilt and dont want to go anywhere else. Thank you for a fantastic, hassle free memorable stay in your beautiful accommodation which i would not hesitate to recommend.

We stayed at Chalet Etoile from 3th to 7th january 2012 and we couldn't ask for more. It was really perfect: comfortable, equipped with everything you can need, furnished with great taste.
The TV-room was a perfect space for our four children to play or to relax watching a Dvd after ski. We adults really enjoyed the living room with the stove.
The owner, Nicole, is very kind and always helpful. Grimentz is a delicious old village.
We highly recommend Chalet Etoile to everyone.

I'm somewhat loathe to write a review about Chalet Etoile (and Grimentz) simply because it's one of those hidden gems that you'd rather keep a secret. Heidi-esque Alpine magic at its purest with all the creature comforts. We've been fortunate enough to visit three times and it just gets better and better. But shush - if you go and like it, keep it quiet!

This chalet has everything that a discerning skier would want: luxury in a still unspoilt resort with the best off piste in Europe.
I highly recommend every aspect of the comfortable and stylish accommodation and the quintessential, picture-post-card village/ski resort of Grimentz.

We stayed at Chalet Etolie during the Summer season. The chalet is immaculately appointed and beautifully decorated with great taste. The pictures barely do justice to the charm of the chalet which exceeded all our expectations. The owners have managed to include losts of modern luxuries without detracting from the charm and character of the buidling. The owners were also very helpful and gave useful advice on where to walk and sights to see. The village of Grimentz is unspoilt by tourist hotels and is full of stunning old Swiss chalets and interesting shops, such a refreshing change from other swiss ski resorts we have visited. Staying at Chalet Etolie was a complete delight from first to last which we would highly recommend to others.
