We stopped at this house on a day tour of Dominica to look for the hummingbirds that often feed on the garden flowers. It always pays to hire locals when birding in a new destination, and for us that meant Dr. Birdy - a local birding expert that also works for the Forestry Division.

I believe that this is an Antillean Crested Hummingbird.

"My two adult children and I enjoyed a comfortable stay in two private bedrooms of the home of the gentleman that owns and lives in the advertised property. He was a kind host, graciously welcoming us when we arrived far too late in the evening and waking before 5am to see us off for our early morning departure. The bed I shared with my adult daughter was the most comfortable I slept on during our entire trip. My only concern is that Vrbo had advertised this property to us as an "Entire Home"...

"Beautiful property. The host was friendly and accommodating. Great location for exploring some of the major sights in the area. A natural spring on site provided delicious drinking water. I had a family cabin with a kitchenette and washing machine. There were no screens in the doors/windows, but the beds had mosquito nets. I rented an AWD vehicle to get there. "Overall we loved it, though it would have been good to know that you can't drive to the hotel if you don't have a proper 4WD as it is located at the end of a long and steep tarished road. Luckily the hotel offers an transport service for the dirty road between 8am and 5pm. They also offer food(preorder only) and drinks at the bar. The staff was very nice and always helpful. "The property is nestled away on the country side of the island. We stayed in the honeymoon suite only steps away from the ocean . The pool is made of stones and is refreshing , especially with a cocktail. We scheduled a couples massage with hot rocks and let the stress of the World melt away . What a lovely retreat with Nature ! We will be back soon!"
