While it's a good 15 mins or so up a hill from the station, for £40 or so, there's nothing at all to complain about- big rooms with cooking facilities, microwave and even a dishwasher should you need it, a lovely swimming pool and staff who were knowlegable and extremely helpful; particularly Guaytan , who couldn't have been more efficient and personable. All in all, very good."

"Apartment was very clean and in a perfect position to explore. Very quiet too.Several good restaurants 2 minutes walk away and more in the Medieval City. There are a few different walking routes up to the Chateau but none were too strenuous (we are in our 60’s & 70’s)There’s a lovely Épicerie just 2 doors away where you can buy fresh baguettes, cheese, wine and other provisions, the staff there are extremely friendly.This was our first time in France and it was beyond our expectations."

"The location was about as good as you can hope - crazy close to the train station and conveniently located next to the canal, right outside of the touristic heart of the city. The rental was spacious and crazy comfortable - with amenities aplenty, the washing machine was a godsend. "Beautiful family run hotel in an excellent location close to the city walls. Bars and restaurants on your doorstep and lovely little cafe opposite for breakfast. Hotel breakfast is 13 euros per person, substantial buffet breakfast well worth the money. Just an 8 minute walk into the city with lots of beautiful restaurants. Would recommend Hotel Du Pont Vieux to anyone visiting Carcassonne and would definitely stay again if returning."

"This place is a hidden gem, within a senior’s residence. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. It took us awhile to figure out that we needed to use the little remotes for closing the window blinds for privacy at night. The bathroom is huge. The kitchen was one of the best-equipped we’ve ever stayed in. The staff, especially Clemence, were kind, patient and very helpful. We chose to have our breakfast in our room, and it was plentiful. (Note that you have to order/register for any meals the day before you want it.) The location is excellent, within walking distance to the castle. But my hubby had difficulty climbing that hill, so we took the #3 transit bus from the bus stop across the street to the top of the hill. (There may have been a stop closer to the hotel, so if you want that option, check first). The A/C was easy to figure out. We highly recommend this wonderful hotel."

The view of the Citadel from my window was enchanting by day and by night - and from the restaurant and rooftop, just breathtaking. A short walk to the Citadel or main town, restaurants all nearby.
