About this property
A-Frame Cabin with Barrel Sauna, Fire Pit, and Fenced Dog Yard
A barrel sauna, a big fully fenced yard for kids and dogs, and wifi that handles two video calls at once: rare finds in an Arnold-area cabin. This design-forward A-frame sits on a quiet cul-de-sac in the pines, 5 minutes from Calaveras Big Trees, and sleeps six, which makes it ideal for a family or two couples.
WHY GUESTS LOVE IT • Electric barrel sauna for up to four, usable year-round
• Big, fully fenced yard and a gated deck, so your dog can roam off-leash and the kids can play outside safely
• Wood stove, tall A-frame windows and a long dining table for board games
• Loft workspace with wifi for two people on video calls at the same time
• Backup generator that switches on automatically in an outage
• Plowed driveway in winter, AC in summer
• Quiet cul-de-sac set back in the forest
THE SPACE Uncluttered and comfortable, modern meets rustic mountain lodge. The main floor is open, with vaulted ceilings, a wood-burning stove, a comfy sofa, a TV with streaming, and a long dining table that has hosted plenty of late-night board games.
Sleeping (6 guests) • Main floor: a queen bedroom and a kids' room with two single beds, plus a full bathroom
• Loft: an open loft with a queen bed, its own full bathroom, a sofa and a workstation facing the trees. Guests say it feels like its own retreat.
• Pack 'n play available
Kitchen and laundry • Fully stocked for real cooking. Guests have made Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas dinners here.
• Keurig with coffee pods, plus cooking oil and spices
• Washer and dryer, with laundry detergent
Outside • Electric barrel sauna for up to four. It takes about an hour to heat, so switch it on before you head out for a hike.
• Big, fully fenced yard: dogs can run off-leash, and kids can sled and build snowmen right outside when there's snow
• Deck, shaded in the afternoon and gated, so your dog can hang out with you while you grill on the Weber
• Wood-burning fire pit with s'more sticks, when fire rules allow. Firewood isn't provided, but there are plenty of fallen branches and pinecones on the property to get it going.
Work and power • Loft workstation and wifi strong enough for two people on video calls at the same time
• Backup generator that switches on automatically in an outage
• AC for hot summer days; wood stove and central heating for winter
Extras: cabin games, books, cozy throws, snowshoes, and folding chairs for the lake.
SEASONS • Winter: sledding in the yard, snowshoes at the door, Spicer Sno-Park about 20 minutes away and Bear Valley about 30. Then the sauna and the wood stove.
• Summer: shaded deck, lakes and rivers nearby, AC when it's hot.
• Spring and fall: quiet trails, dogwood blooms and fall color, and the fire pit in the evening.
LOCATION The whole cabin and its 0.7 acres are yours. The driveway is flat with room for several cars, and there are only a few steps to the front door. We send directions before you arrive, since the cabin is tricky to find after dark.
Nearby by car: • 2 min: Lube Room Saloon
• 5 min: Calaveras Big Trees State Park (giant sequoias) and Camp Connell General Store
• 10 to 15 min: Arnold for restaurants and gas
• 15 min: Big Trees Market for groceries, White Pines Lake, the Stanislaus River
• About 20 min: Spicer Sno-Park for sledding and snow play
• About 30 min: Murphys, a Gold Rush town with tasting rooms and restaurants, Bear Valley for skiing, and Lake Alpine for summer swimming
GOOD TO KNOW • Pet friendly: one pet maximum, with a $75 pet fee
• Winter: the driveway is plowed, but Highway 4 can require chains or 4WD during storms, and after a big storm you may need to wait for the plow. Carry chains and bring groceries; the nearest market is 15 minutes away.
• Expect little to no cell service at the cabin. Use the wifi, and download offline maps before you leave the highway.
• Garbage service included: leave trash in the bear box when you go.
• The sauna is electric, so it's available year-round.

We had a great time at the cabin with family. It was comfy and tucked away into the trees. Close to Calaveras Big Trees park which was magnificent to see.
Daniel was responsive and check in and out were easy. We appreciated the driveway plowed as we arrived right after a storm. The cabin is cozy and beautiful views from the living room. We loved being near Arnold and Bear Valley for skiing.
This place was ideal for me, my wife, and our dog!
We came here for our five-year anniversary and had such a great time.
There is great hiking, food, and fun in the area but my favorite thing was to read my book on the deck and bask in the sounds of the trees and birds.
We are 100% coming back.
Daniel's place was perfect for our family of four (spouse, young adult daughter and teen son) plus our maltipoo pooch. It's located on a cul de sac street so there was no traffic at all driving by. We immediately felt right at home! The house was well decorated, clean, great natural lighting from all the windows, and comfortable. Every room has wall heaters so in the winter it's able to get nice and toasty warm. The driveway is not steep, so easy to drive up. Having a LARGE fenced in area for our dog is a big plus, though for this trip with all the snow, we played well beyond the boundaries of the fence. The house is perfectly located in the middle of everywhere you'd want to go, whether it's further up the mountain to to Lake Alpine/Bear Valley Ski Resort and sledding parks, or down to Big Trees park or Arnold for groceries. We had a few questions here and there, and Daniel responded promptly to all of them. We'll definitely be returning!
A comfy cabin in a woodsy quiet neighborhood, close to Lake Alpine and trails and close enough to Arnold. And having the enclosed yard was great for our dog.
Sugar Pine was perfect! Set among the beautiful trees surrounded a peace and quiet. Home was just as listed with everything you would need for your stay. Very clean & modern. Great location! Host communication was excellent! Definitely book it!
Well appointed, comfortable beds. Quiet beautiful forest surroundings. pet friendly with a fenced in yard. Had a great stay would recommend to anyone..
Such a magical little cabin! My husband and 5-yr old daughter loved staying at the Sugar Pine Chalet. Appreciate the cleanliness of the space and creativity/care put into the decor. Kind and responsive hosts. We are so grateful for the fond memories made. The morning light through the quiet snowy trees was everything.
Had an amazing 3 night stay here. The surroundings are beautiful and the cabin location is so peaceful and quiet. Loved sitting out on the deck with my dog and enjoying the tranquility. The cabin is outstanding, very comfortable and had everything we needed. Would highly recommend staying here and we will definitely be back.
We had a fantastic stay at the Sugar Pine Chalet! This cabin is wonderful - cozy yet modern, tastefully decorated, and well equipped with everything you need. We loved making s'mores by the fire pit, cooking in the well-organized kitchen, dining on the deck under the bistro lights, and enjoying the comfy living room. Dog owners will love this place, as it has a fenced in area attached to the home's deck that is great if you bring a dog. Hosts were easy to communicate with and gave us great suggestions of what to do with kids when our plans to ski were crushed due to a heat wave. We can't wait to visit again next year when there is snow, or to come back in summer to enjoy the rivers and lakes nearby!
The cabin is great, very comfortable and cozy. An added plus was being able to bring our pup and the fenced area for him to be safe in. A lot to do in the surrounding area. Only ping I would give is if you want to use the wood stove or fire pit bring your own wood as there was none at the house. We had a great weekend.

Sugar pine challet is in the perfect location for easy ski trips to Bear Valley, Big trees, and hiking. There is an enchanting fire circle area with bistro lights. The general store is super close for anything you may have forgotten. The fenced yard is perfect for allowing your fur baby some freedom to run out energy. The size is perfect for 6 people, and clean and comfortable!! We enjoyed our stay so much I'm already checking my calendar for when we can go back!
What a great place to relax, visit and take quiet walks. The beds were comfortable, and we slept well. We used the kitchen to cook and used the barbeque. The surroundings are breathtaking. The lake at Snowshoe Springs is a real treat. It was a little chilly for swimming when we were there but would be so much fun in the summer. Just a real wonderful long weekend. Thank you for sharing your home!
The property was fairly new, well kept and maintained. A few minor things are that the upstairs bathroom had a clogged bathtub and the door to go out to the patio is very hard to slide. Other than those 2, everything else worked and maintained well
We were 2 couples and stayed for a week. The cabin had everything we needed. No AC but we could cool it down at night with all the windows open and the 3 fans that were provided. Its a few degrees cooler than Arnold as it's about 1000 feet higher. Very quiet on the weekdays with few neighbors at home.
Overall it’s a great place. Decorated well, nice furnishings. Bathrooms were very clean, as was the kitchen. Pet friendly, loved the fenced in yard and deck so we did not have to worry about our dog getting out. The beds were clean and comfortable but small. Would have liked a queen or bigger in the master lofted room because it was so spacious. Kitchen was well stocked, but an electric kettle for hot water would have been a huge plus. To make tea or French press coffee we had to use the small stove kettle and it wasn’t great. Loved the wood burning stove - really helped create the cozy atmosphere. The main heating in the house was a little confusing to use but we managed to get it working. I wish there had been more overhead lighting, especially in the kitchen. But the bedrooms as well weren’t well lit and even in the day time we needed to have lights on.The neighborhood is very quiet but easy to get to. It is a solid 15 minutes from Arnold and 30 from Murphy’s. It was nice to feel like you are in the woods but you can still see neighbors so it felt safe. The host was super responsive to messages which was great!

Needs Maintenance
Light bulbs were burnt out at the kitchen and dining room table. We ended up replacing 3 bulbs. The dining room fixture is in need of repair. One of the lamps did not work in the lower bedroom. The barbeque did not get hot enough, and we could not cook on it. 3 cooking utensils were dirty in the drawer. The cooktop was greasy and needed to be cleaned. The cover for the garbage disposal was missing. Lighting throughout the cabin was poor and made reading difficult. Light switches in the bedrooms did not turn on lights. There was only one pillowcase when we arrived.
