Did you know that Catalonia, Spain, is full of fantastic wine tasting opportunities? It's not as famous as Spain's La Rioja region, but it's a great place for lovers of the grape to worship.

This particular winery is Oller del Mas, which was actually originally a castle. Today, it's both a castle and a vineyard. Go all the way up to the top to take in spectacular views at sunset of the surrounding countryside and fields of grapevines.

The mountain in the distance is Montserrat, which translates to "serrated mountain" because of its spiky rock formations.

Oller del Mas is located in Manresa, a city an hour's drive outside of Barcelona. Trains run regularly, and take about an hour and a half to get there.

The Castle of Cardona is arguably the most important medieval fortress in Catalonia and one of the most important in Spain. It is situated on a hill overlooking the river valley of the Cardener and the town of Cardona.

The fortress was initially constructed by Wilfred the Hairy in 886. It is in both the Romanesque and Gothic styles, and includes the so-called Sala Dorada and Sala dels Entresols.

"We traveled to Barcelona to celebrate my 50th birthday with family and friends. The villa was beautiful, clean and a wonderful experience. We were close enough to the train station to get to 99% of the places we wanted to go! Many stairs in the villa so keep that in mind if you have an older group. Hope to go back in the future!! "We had a huge family holiday here with 18 of us and had a lovely time. "Stayed at the Villa in August 2023 with by husband and 2 teenage boys. The place is clean, comfortable and large. The views from the balcony are stunning and you can spend hours just looking into the valley and the mountains across. Mosquitoes was a problem until we went and bought the right equipment we needed to plug in. The pool is lovely although we found it quite shallow. Shop with all you need is 3 minutes away driving. Perfect place if you want a quiet, calm holiday like we did."
