Very family oriented, well appointed cabin in a beautiful area. we loved the views and the nearby towns of Waynesville and Sylva. Great communication with the owner - will stay again if we get the chance.

The property worked really well for us. I was surprised at how well it was stocked. The view was great. We was all able to just chill and relax. We really enjoyed the washer hook game on the porch.

Up front I am going to mention that when we were in the rental the arctic freeze of 2022 hit and some of our issues were due to that unusual weather. Somehow we missed the fact that you have to go outside to access the 4 bedrooms. It is in the description so that was my bad. I would say this cabin is very rustic. Built probably in the 60s. I think we were the only one in the neighborhood. It has the old style wall heaters that can be dangerous and the owner asks they not stay own unless you are in the cabin. We were first greeted by a rotten pumpkin that had collapsed on the deck. Was told that the cleaning crew would turn the heat on. It was not done and temps were about 55 degrees. Also, there was food from the prior renters in the fridge. The stove was dirty and needed new foil on the burners. Called the rental management and they eventually got someone to come take care of it. Firewood is provided but you only get a small amount and you will have to buy more if you want it. We lost electricity and the owner wasn't willing to provide more wood. You could feel cold air coming from the plugins and doors. The weather stripping was hanging loose on a few doors. Boards had fallen from the 2nd floor on the outside of the house and insulation was exposed. Owner requested us to let the water drip which we did but pipes still froze. We didn't have water for 4 days. I believe the pipes could have been better insulated prior to this happening. It burst where there had been prior work on the plumbing. We ended up leaving early. Owner did agree to refund a PARTIAL of a days rental.

Very comfortable property for a family gathering. Plenty of space, chairs, and bathrooms. Easily sleeps 10. Has every pot, pan, serving bowl, and appliance ready in the kitchen. Smaller kitchen and range/oven, but entirely fine for our family gathering of up to 10 adults.

Gorgeous views from a rustic family cabin. The cabin has everything you need but could be cleaner. Be aware of shower sizes and sleep habits of your group before assigning bedrooms. The firepit was well stocked with wood and we enjoyed a fire every evening. A few deferred maintenance items were a small annoyance, but we enjoyed a wonderful week with family. The hosts were very responsive to all of our needs.

Perfect spot for our family reunion. Tight kitchen but we worked it out with no problems. Enjoyed the lazy susan table and the porches with a great view. Oh. Bring toilet paper!!

We stayed there with the in laws for a week it was in a great location with beautiful views and tons of things to do in the area. The layout of the house was a bit goofy, but we would definitely stay there again.

Got kind of lost trying to find this place. They say to use map quest instead of google but who uses that anymore and it’s not accurate either. Would be nice if they gave you written directions from the main road. The house needs the number in a more visible place. It’s on a post behind a fern once you pass the driveway and there is nothing that says what road you are on. Even the people who live around there didn’t know where the road is. Cabin needs a lot of updates. Very inconvenient getting upstairs and downstairs. That ladder access is nuts! No AC so with a lot of rain the mustiness is really bad. Downstairs bedroom set up is really weird. All the products to get rid of the dampness were full of water. Really needed to replace those before anyone rents. Floors were dirty. Had to replace some lightbulbs. Most of house is really dark. Beautiful views and kitchen is well stocked. Great location once you find it. Would not recommend for older people at all.

We has a nice time at this cabin over Christmas. The listing was accurate, but we underestimated the inconvenience of the outdoor stairs. It was very hard to move around in the rain and late at night. The living area was cozy with the big sofas and the fire. You do feel like you are in someone else's home, as there are personal items and photos everything - which is unusual for a rental. The kitchen was really well stocked for baking, but the oven had some issues and there were some burned dishes!! We loved using the big porch and the fire pit across the road. We did not love the noise from the bedrooms - when you are downstairs, you can hear every step upstairs. The owner was very responsive with all our issues.

Wanted to show the kids some winter, being from Florida. It was perfect. When seeing the mountains; surrounding trees, birds and nature abound, suddenly phones, social media and video games didn’t exist....Seeing the beauty that surrounds the cabin can take your breath away. The snow did come down lightly one evening and we drove to see more, just to have a snowball fight. A couple of great hikes, a trip to the great little town down the road and a nice drink or two, just seems to tie it all together. Inside the Cabin is like being at home with everything you need. Outside puts you far far away from home with views that go on forever! Now we have to get back for the summer!

It was like staying in a hunting cabin that had been closed up all year and was just opened up when we got there. The furniture was worn out, everything was damp and musty smelling with bugs everywhere. Will never stay there again.

Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate for motorcycles, however the deck was a lifesaver. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. The huge 6' diameter dining room table seated all of us with plenty of room. The downstairs bedrooms were used as three separate units with three individual outside doors. It worked for us.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Summit Splendor. The temps were splendid along with the morning breeze. We enjoyed making s'mores at night around the fire. This cabin is 5 minutes to the blue ridge parkway which was very convenient for us. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with exactly what we needed. Our kids enjoyed coming up and down the ladder to there rooms. Would defiantly stay here again. Balsam is such a lovely town.

My family of 9 stayed over for the New Years weekend and we all loved the place. It has an amazing sunroom with glass walls looking down the mountain and the mountains in front of it. It was my absolute favorite room. The house is very spacious with a bunch of rooms and beds. The kitchen is equipped, just like a regular home, with all sorts of pans, glasswear, blenders, etc. The house was nice and warm! The only few things I would suggest to the owners is to add a roof over the outside stairs. It rained a bit and they were very slippery (about 4 of us slipped). The master room's king bed is sunk inside in the middle, perhaps a new boxspring? And last, I think the water heater has two elements of heating and one of the is not working, so the tank takes longer to heat the water. What we did was wait a few minutes between showers so we could all get hot water. Other than these few things, which are minor, we spent an amazing time. The home was very clean, plenty of towels, and linens. We didn't explore the sorroundings, since it was a short stay, but there are a few nearby stores. We took amazing pictures around the area, turned on the fire pit inside, and made marshmallows. Overall, absolutely great place! Definitively recommend it! Especially for large families. Hope to return next year.

For record, here is a recap of our complaint/condition of the house. We arrived around 5:30pm & did not feel as if the house was a safe or sanitary environment. We immediately reached out to HomeAway with our concerns. Safety and sanitary issues include: multiple windows that don't close, lights that don't work, first floor bedrooms have no direct accessibility to the upper floor (not safe for kids), a ladder installed in a closet connecting the two floors had no lighting and was locked with furniture on top of it, the heat on the first floor was not heating the lower rooms (windows won't close), multiple broken furniture, broken window treatments, broken blind fallen & laying on the floor, trash in the kitchen, fridge was dirty, kitchen cabinets broken, food splattered on appliances, rotten bathroom floor, torn flooring/rugs, couches and blankets are soiled/stained, the TV was fuzzy/snowy and the Dish network wouldn't work (it finally came on about an hour & a half while we were working with HomeAway to find alternate lodging), torn window screens, ceiling fan broken, barely any lighting in the bedrooms except for small side tabletop lamps, and beds were sunken in, linens were tattered and stained not suitable for use, and exposed electrical outlets. The conditions were unsafe and unsanitary and based on all these issue approached the owner asking for a refund. I logged nearly 4 hours talking with HomeAway Travel Care Advisors trying to find a place to stay. We spoke to the owner the same evening and he said he understood our issues and would refund our money. He even called us back That night to say he could refund us through HomeAway or mail us a check. However, he did not start the process and after repeated outreach from HomeAway's Escalation Team he finally took their call and agreed to process a partial refund. He went back on his word and decided to keep one-third of our fee, calling it a Cancellation fee for the inconvenience. There is Nothing in his ad nor his emails about a cancellation fee, neither did he mention anything when we spoke to him. It took us 7 hours to find another place. The Owner lied to us and now keeping our monies he promised to refund. Renters beware. Imagine an 8yo having to sleep in a dingy, dirty bedroom with almost no heat and broken windows that do not close. It is not what is advertised (& I was a successful VRBO homeowner that valued honesty to renters). We are seeking legal protection for the monies he promised.

We would stay here again for sure. The house is a little outdated, BUT the views, the brand new sun room, the location is amazing. Very close to all amenities. The hill is a little narrow getting up there, but that's the sacrifice you make for amazing views!

My family and I (7 of us) just spent a week at this cabin and it was wonderful. The view is spectacular and the cabin was just perfect. It has a rustic feel to it and is very roomy and cozy, and we loved the openness. The kitchen is very well equipped and the dining table with the lazy susan is so cool; since its round it makes for easy conversation. The family room and sun room are very comfy and relaxing. The bedrooms are spacious enough with a good amount of closet space and comfortable beds. Also the location was perfect to get to other points of interest; Waynesville, Maggie Valley, and the Blue Ridge Parkway are close by. Asheville is only 40 minutes away. And there are great walking and hiking trails. Overall it was a great vacation spot, and we would highly recommend visiting the Smokey Mountains and staying here.
