North Devon, pet-Friendly, 6 Bedroom House on 41 Acre Private Country Estate

Somers Hiscott is a luxury six bedroom house situated on a 41 acre private estate in the heart of the North Devon countryside. The spacious, tastefully decorated house was completely renovated in 2015, and no expense has been spared when equipping this beautiful property.

Sleeping up to 12, Somers Hiscott is a house for all seasons, and is perfect for both families and friends. The dog friendly house enjoys countryside views and benefits from its own large terrace where summer BBQ's can be enjoyed and a rear garden laid to lawn.

Inside, the house is split over two levels. Throughout the ground floor guests can benefit from underfloor heating, which is also present in every bathroom.

The large lounge overlooks the terrace and features a wonderful new wood-burning stove. There are also comfy sofas, bean bags and a 55'' flat screen, wall-mounted 76" smart TV.

The kitchen/diner is situated at the heart of the house and is packed full of excellent appliances. The kitchen with its black slate floors and marble work surfaces has been equipped with an electric range cooker, an American style fridge/freezer with ice dispenser and filtered water, a dishwasher, a wine fridge, a coffee machine, bread maker an ice-cream maker and much, much more. The dining area has a lovely large wood table that easily seats up to 12 and is suitable for all occasions. There is a wall mounted flat screen TV in the kitchen/diner.

There are six good sized bedrooms at Somers Hiscott. Five of these, are on the 1st floor. They feature Hypnos zip and link beds (allowing either super-king or twin bed configuration). This provides a huge amount of flexibility. Three of these bedrooms have luxury en-suite shower rooms whilst the other two share whilst the other two bedrooms share the large family bathroom fitted with both a Villeroy and Boch bath and a separate walk in shower. On the ground floor bedroom 6 has a king size size bed. It is ideal for guests with limited mobility. It too, has an en-suite with walk in shower.

Somers Hiscott sits within a large private estate that includes a designated County Wildlife Site. The beautiful ancient woods cover a large proportion of the estate and are perfect for leisurely walks. In the spring the bluebells create a wonderful blue carpet. There is also a small lake where you can spend time spotting the local wildlife - look out for the kingfisher as well as an orchard and several paddocks. Many other native wildlife, including deer, buzzards, otters, foxes and rabbits can often be seen.

Somers Hiscott is in a lovely location for exploring North Devon. Just a few miles away is Barnstaple, North Devon's largest town and home to several well known shops, restaurants, a cinema and a theatre. The beautiful beaches of Woolacombe, Westward Ho!, Saunton Sands and Croyde are also within easy reach making trips to the seaside a must.

Many activities can be enjoyed when staying at Somers Hiscott. As well as local walks around the estate, there is the South West Coast Path to explore, and the mainly traffic free Tarka Trail accessed nearby, which is ideal for both cyclists or walkers. North Devon boasts two golf clubs in the UK's top 100 at Saunton and Royal North Devon. Surfing and wind-surfing, fishing - both fly and coarse, horse riding, sailing, clay pigeon shooting and driven shoots can also be discovered nearby.

For local attractions there is the RHS Rosemoor, Big Sheep, The Milky Way, Exmoor Zoo and Arlington Court, as well as many more that can be enjoyed by both adults and children.

We only left this morning but couldn't wait to write a review for this amazing place!

I would like to say a huge thank you for making our Christmas absolutely perfect! The house was amazing and clean and the perfect layout for large gatherings. We were greeted with homemade scones and doggy bags for all 3 of our dogs. These personal touches was the icing on the cake. I could not reccomened this place enough and we will be sure to visit again as soon as we can! Gutted to have to leave would rate the house and owners 10 stars if I could. Many thanks again Laura

familyholiday

We much enjoyed our week at Somers Hiscott which is a large and very comfortable house set deep in the woods. It is very well equipped, especially the kitchen which has every appliance and cooking and eating utensil one could wish for. The very large main TV and others throughout the house were a boon for our sports fans for the Euros and Wimbledon when the weather was rather poor for much of our time. Our hosts could not have been more welcoming with lovely flowers in the hall, bubbly in the wine fridge and even a bag of doggy treats for our Collie, and always available to help if needed. The only downside is the remoteness with 30-40 minute drives down narrow lanes to get to the coast, shops and the better pubs, but we would highly recommend it for large family or friends groups.

Great property for a gathering of friends

Excellent facilities for a large party with good provision of bathrooms. Kitchen well stocked with crockery and cutlery and large dining table for shared meals. Good outside arrangements for the better weather days. Good directions from owner gave shortest journey of 2 miles from nearest main road; once we knew the the route it felt shorter. Plenty of great places to visit only a short drive away.

Lovely house, clean & well equipped, beautiful setting, great hosts

House is great - spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped to a high standard so worked really well for our big group. Set in its own beautiful Devon woodland, very peaceful & quiet. We are so happy that we found it & really enjoyed our stay there

This was an amazing find.... a house to accommodate a large family in the most glorious setting.

The house was warm and welcoming, spotless and on arrival treats for everyone including the dogs . The kitchen is very well appointed and I cooked for a large family without any problems. The owners had considered every detail and we thank them for their kindness in sharing their home. The woodland area that this property sits in is beautiful and the owners kindly allow you to share this, perfect for dog walking. Whoever visits this property will only be delighted. Really hoping to arrange another family gathering so we can stay there again😊

Full equipped with everything you would need. Made the perfect house for my boyfriends 30th birthday surprise. Rooms where modern and fresh. Owner came and introduced himself and checked we were settling in ok. Very friendly and helpful. Absolutely amazing stay and would highly recommend.

A Haven of Peace and Tranquility at Somers Hiscott

The description of the property was accurate in every way.It was spotlessly clean, very well maintained and beautifully prepared. Beds and towells changed mid way through our stay The owners were very friendly and helpful, anxious that we enjoyed our stay. They met us on arrival and showed us around, explained the heating system etc to us, even leaving tea, coffee, fresh milk and some delicious home made scones with jam and cream. Very welcome after a long journey. They were on hand if needed but totally unobtrusive. We visited the beautiful local beaches (Beware of the seagulls at Woolacombe they swoop down and steal food from your hands), National Trust properties in the area are excellent as are other Manor houses open to the public. Our favoutite place which is a must to visit, was the wonderful gardens at RHS Rosemoor. We went twice and still didn't see everything. We visited the local pubs as recommended in the information book at the house and were very satisfied apart from The Rising Sun at Umberleigh. They allow dogs and one ran barking up to every new customer. We felt intimidated and disturbed by its noise. It was allowed to freely wander around, even coming under our table whilst we were eating, It belonged to the owner We had the most wonderful holiday at Somers Hiscott, everything was perfect.I cannot give it enough praise. The staff at the letting agency were very helpful prior to booking answering my many questions. They were very efficient and replies to all transactions were very prompt. I have no hesitation in recommending the letting agency or this fantastic property to anyone wanting a quiet and peaceful holiday. It really is a gem of a find.

Beautiful property, so well appointed

Having stayed in many holiday homes in UK and abroad, we voted this house the best. It wasn't easy to find - may I suggest that a 'Somers' sign is placed at each side of the hedge as you can't see it when driving down the lane. The owners were most helpful and responded quickly to any queries. Lovely beds and linen, super showers - altogether a superior property.
