"The check-in process was not ideal. Being road weary we wanted to go to our room, but it wasn't ready so they offered us a tour of the butterfly garden. We accepted, but we were not told it would take over an hour with a subpar tour guide. Finally getting to our room we readied for the pool. Asking for towels they said I needed to hand over my ID or passport (which was in my room), dripping wet they would not accommodate. I wish they told us at check-in that they are weird about the towels. They told me to go to my room for ID and/or the room towels. Returning to my room, I found we had no bath towels either. Not impressed with this element of the stay. Food was decent, staff speaks little English and were not attentive, breakfast was good. "

"Upon arrival I was told that, I was told that even though I had a reservation confirmation, they were not aware of it. After close to an hour I was told that they had managed to find a room for us. An “upgrade”. I had booked a king suite and was placed in a room with 2 double beds. The upgrade was a balcony that looked out over a warehouse parking lot. The supper buffet was good, the breakfast buffet was average. The highlight was the omelette station. "

"The little restaurant opposite the buffet is really nice, the staff is wonderful! The food is better than the buffet, but a very limited menu, I would suggest a choice of the day to add diversity. No other good restaurants in the neighborhood of the hotel. "

"This hotel is completely run down, very interesting history as it's built in 1912, but completely neglected. The neighborhood is also not great. Unfortunate that such a historic place is being lost."

We used all the recommendations (Kamir is a great cook and wonderful person), went on a boat tour and enjoyed the Embera trip. It was our first time in the jungle and Gamboa was a great experience. "Credit Card was skimmed at the Marina Hotel/restaurant. Only used this particular card in one place during my days in Panama...at check-in, and to pay for a pizza at the restaurant. Had unauthorized charges less than 3 hours later."
