It was pleasant and comfortable, with very friendly and helpful staff who spoke very good English (important for me as my Chinese is poor).
The area is very interesting, characteristic of an older (and less prosperous) China than the glittering modern parts of the cities. It is well placed for sightseeing, within walking distance of the Drum and Bell Towers, and very near a subway station.
The hotel was difficult to find in a maze of alleys! Neither Google Maps nor our didi driver could locate it more than approximately. Local people we asked had never heard of it. We found it only because one local man walking his dog, who had not heard of it, came back to tell us he had noticed it for the first time after our inquiry! In turn, we were later able to show the way to another traveler whom we saw wandering about the alleys looking lost.
Our otherwise pleasant bedroom had no windows. This felt a little claustrophobic, and gave us no idea in the mornings what the weather outside was going to be like.
