Vue d'ensemble de la tour Einstein (Einsteinturm, Einstein tower) Leibniz-Institut für Astrophysik Potsdam Allemagne Cet édifice (de style qualifié d'expressionniste) est un observatoire du rayonnement solaire doté d'un important télescope et d'appareils de spectrographie, destinés initialement à la vérification de la théorie de la relativité d'Einstein. Le bâtiment a été conçu par l'architecte allemand Erich Mendelsohn, et construit entre 1920 et 1922. Sa mise en service date de 1924. Il a été restauré à plusieurs reprises, en 1958, 1964, 1974-1978 et 1984, il est encore utilisé de nos jours. Il est situé sur la colline Telegrafenberg au sud de Potsdam dans le parc de l'observatoire. Erich Mendelsohn (1887-1953) est un des plus importants architectes allemands du XXè siècle. Il a notamment construit la Columbus-Haus, sur le Potsdamer Platz entre 1930 et 1932, un immeuble de bureaux et de commerces de 9 étages, très moderne pour l'époque. Incendié lors du soulèvement populaire de juin 1953 en RDA, il a été détruit en 1961. Erich Mendelsohn a du fuir l'Allemagne en 1933 pour échapper aux persécutions des nazis envers les juifs.
