This was a very welcome stay on our last day of a long and tiring tour through France and Spain. It is peaceful and quiet and has a lovely location high in the hills. The staff were very good and helpful.
Hotel is new and design is nice, rooms are spacious. Definitely come by car though as their food is not that great (everything is canned) and it’s in a pretty remote area. The breakfast in the morning was nice though. Although it appears to be in a remote area we fell asleep to the sounds of a concert somewhere nearby so not the quietest. Overall value not worth the money we paid.
The hotel is some way up in the hills behind Bermio, and is much too far too walk down. However having said that the hotel is excellent and is good value for money. The rooms and beds are spacious and comfortable. The breakfast is good with plenty of options. We had an evening meal in the hotel which was a fixed price including wine. The menu was limited but the food was cooked well and was much better than we expected. So much better to eat there than drive down to Bermio.
this hotel is for you. We had two days there and loved the hotel, staff (excellent English), and setting which is in a nature preserve with a 9km circuit trail to a 100 AD Roman ruin. The common areas are nicely decorated and the dining ranging from tapa plates to a fixed menu of fresh ingredients. Breakfast included both fresh squeezed orange juice and the reddest tomatoes ever. The hotel is quiet, peaceful, and pastoral with horses next door. The staff were happy to converse and went out of their way to cater to us. I save 5 ratings for the best I have ever visited, and have to say, that this was a hghlight of a trip that was filled with excellent, inexpensive hotels. Atxurra was the best
Here is what we learned that we did not know. It is a 1500 foot down , 5-6 km walk to the town of Bermeo (lovely setting). While the climb back up is slower, there is a restaurant 1/3 of the way up for a beer to cool off. We initially reached the hotel from the center of Bilbao by an hourly bus (2.5 E) to Bermeo and then a 13 E taxi up to the hotel. There is a bus stop at the intersection of the hotel's road and the main Bermeo to Bilbao road and then it is about 2 km of level walk on an untravelled paved road to the hotel. Hence if you don't have too much baggage and like to walk, you do not need a rental car.
Lovely boutique lodging. Excellent staff and service. One comment is that detailed directions would be a big improvement. This hotel address not in any of our map apps - we had to call hotel from town for instructions. Location is a few minutes out of town, up a mountain in very quiet and remote setting with sheep and horses as neighbors. Excellent! We extended our stay.

We enjoyed our two night stay at Atxurra. The hotel is well built and well designed and finished. The rooms are large and well furnished. The hotel is well maintained and very clean throughout.
The breakfasts are excellent with a wide choice available and even fresh orange juice which is always a sign of a good hotel.
A lovely hotel, up a narrow road in the mountains - great for a quiet stay or if touring in the location. A little way away from anything, so transport is definitely required. The staff were really helpful and informative about the area. Very
The friendliness could not have been bettered! The hotel was a wonderful blend between the tradional and modern where one could see that a great deal of thought as well as resources had been invested in creating an ecofriendly homely environment whilst retaining the highest standards. If there was anything that could have been bettered that might have been a room with a double bed rather than two singles.
