Have known this hotel for a number of years and it was one of the best in the area but now needing a facelift without spoiling its design. Lift inside needs upgrading, fixtures and fittings need upgrading. STAFF were lovely especially Carol in the lounge area, very kind and helpful. Pool and garden area lovely. Parking good but limited spaces. Receptionists friendly and helpful. Hotel is well situated for Bideford T own and links to Westward Ho!, Barnstable, Instow and surrounding areas. Would recommend.

We stayed six nights and enjoyed it immensely. There is a real homely feeling to the hotel. There were a few niggles but you get them wherever you go. The staff were polite, friendly and most attentive. The bar and restaurant were more than satisfactory and the heated outdoor pool was a brilliant addition. We will definitely be going back especially since my partners friend is residing in Bideford now and we will happily reserve a room at Durant House Hotel whenever we visit.

Hotel was ok. Though tired. Cannot fault the staff though. We eat dinner at the hotel and meal was under whelming. The crab and spring onion croquettes should have been called potato and spring onion croquettes with a hint ( and I mean hint ) of crab meat added! Vegetables on main course were overcooked and completely dried out - most probably due I guess, to being kept warm under heat lamps.

Looked ok in reception but that’s as good as it got , very out dated and not a great deal worked in the room . Very nearly boiled the kettle for a coffee in the morning before looking in it . Never seen anything like that before . When reeling off the stuff wrong with the room the staff were not bothered at all . Was charged £130 for the night and wouldn’t have paid £30 if I had a choice .

There,was only one lift for the whole hotel which was,a really old one and only held 4 people.Our room was,not cleaned or wet towels replaced until we complained of tea tray filled up or bin empties.We had to complain on three r Occasions.There,were no bed side lights so if you got out in the night you had,to fumble for a switch.So had,to buy a torch ,.a A notice said it bathroom floor gets set it is,slippery.Surely bathroom flooring should be slip proof.Bathroom was cramped with a ridiculous glass sink. My mattress had a spring coming through which hurt my back so had,to turn the mattress over.Seemed to be a,lack of staff.We were,so miserable we checked out a,day early.l had,a holiday spoiled.Would not recommend it at all

I was charged twice, due to staff incompetence, very very run down , rude staff especially the restaurant staff , on the second floor our room and it was dirty and run down and not comparable to the pictures displayed , the safety catches on the windows were broken most facilities were locked and in darkness , we subsequently left with out staying at the property after a few short hours . And I was refused a refund . Do your self a favour and avoid this property . By far the worst hotel I’ve ever been to !

To be totally frank this property room wise is stuck in an 80,s time warp and in dire need of modernising. Whilst it was clean in this day an age to label it superior is far from what the room actually is especially with the lack of power sockets by the bed. All the bad reviews are true! I can imagine it was an amazing hotel back in the 1980's. Unfortunately no maintenance has been done since. Old carpets and furniture. Old school springy uncomfortable mattress. Outdated decor. Broken tiles. Very poor shower, hardly any flow. Old fashioned tiny TV. Can't use firestick on it. My upgraded room wasn't much better than the previous room. I had to fix the window myself as wouldn't close properly. On both rooms, the inside thumb lock don't function so a saftey issue. All the stairs and rooms have creaky floors. The elevator is slower than if you walk up the stairs! I feel sorry for the staff as they try their best. No duty manager on Bank holiday Monday. Hotel needs complete refurb. The room walls need stripping back to the bricks! Avoid. You have been warned.
