The Gordon Homestead, circa 1790, includes a fully renovated family home, updated with modern conveniences while maintaining a little old world charm. This is the perfect place to get away from it all on over 200 acres nestled in a relaxed country setting yet less than 15 minutes from historic sites, shops and restaurants. We hope that your family will fall in love with this property and make memories that are as special as those my family has enjoyed over the years.

The 3/4 mile of Licking Creek stream front on the farm is perfect for fishing, kayaking, or even swimming. Seated at the base of Dickey's Mountain, this is perfect for hiking, and with access to the over 5000 acres of State Game Land #124, this is a hunting paradise.

The upstairs balcony is an excellent place to enjoy the stars. The outdoor fire pit is the ideal place to enjoy an amazing sunset and transition to an evening of s'mores by a fire or retreat inside to shoot a game of pool or play a board or card game.
This is a quiet country setting. Every star in the sky can be viewed with no interfering lights to block the visibility. The endless amounts of wildlife not only include deer, turkey, fox, squirrel, rabbits, turtles and many varieties of birds, but also bears, bald eagles, and porcupine. You can enjoy the peaceful sunrises from the front porch or balcony. Enjoy the amazing sunsets from the backyard firepit.
Please note that some elements of nature are unavoidable in the country. Despite the fact that we contract regular exterminator services for our home, you may encounter an occasional insect indoors, and the outdoors are beyond our control.

My family and I enjoyed staying at your home. It was exactly as described and shown in the photographs. Simply beautiful! The kitchen had every pan, container, and gadget we needed. The weather was perfect, and we enjoyed watching the sunrise from the porches. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
We rented the house this weekend since it was near our daughter’s wedding venue and it was everything Janet and Tony said it would be!! Highly recommend! It was beautifully decorated and in a quiet and peaceful location. Kitchens and bathrooms were stocked and the boys enjoyed using the pool table. We ended our stay with coffee on the front porch for a few hours. We even left something that they made arrangements for us to get back. Would definitely stay again!!
We really enjoyed our stay. The rural setting was very tranquil, and we loved playing pool in the room dedicated to the pool table. Lovely bathroom upstairs for morning showers!
The house was amazing and beautiful.! We were all happy to get away and had an amazing time. The owners were amazing too and made the whole experience even better.!
The house is very well maintained and has everything you could need! We had a little bit of trouble getting in but the owner quickly got it taken care of! Overall great stay
The accommodations were superb, highly recommend this property, a fully stocked house, very comfortable beds, we couldn’t have asked for a better stay, we will definitely be returning
My family and I had a wonderful time staying at this charming property. Great views of nature and nearby mountains. My niece and nephew had a great time exploring the property. We had all the amenities we needed for the weekend. My nephew LOVED the pool table.
Your home was the perfect spot for our girls’ weekend! The house has lots of character and the renovated bathrooms are very nice. Beds were quite comfortable (we couldn’t find linens for the futon but we made do). This was the perfect place for old friends to catch up!
We had such an amazing experience from start to finish.the property is beautiful, there are lovely creeks nearby, the neighbors were friendly and we were able to have beautiful bonfires at night. We couldn’t recommend the hosts any more. They were easy to communicate with and had the place fully stocked with everything we could need! We all highly recommend and hope to be back.
The farmhouse provides PLENTY of land to roam around and explore the state game lands' area, including the running creek which runs through the back of the house's property! ... Great place to unwind with some friends. Further, Janet and Tony were very gracious hosts!!! Thank you guys so much for the lasting memories!
Our 3-pod family had a great quick getaway and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - from the quaint farm decor to modern amenities like a pool table, flat screen TV and updated bathrooms. The fire pit was a bonus and the landscape gorgeous. We used their map and found our way to the stream and we got to do a stream walk.
We hope to return again soon!
My husband and I and our two adult children and their partners spent 2 wonderful weeks in August at the Gordon Homestead. The house was extremely comfortable and more than well-supplied with everything we needed. Super comfortable beds, luxurious bathrooms. The central AC was a lifesaver during the heatwave. We made forays to the many, interesting historical sites nearby, went swimming in the lake at Cowans Gap, read Agatha Christie aloud at the fire pit under the stars. We can't wait to return!
Coming from DC and not planning to ski we were worried the kids would not have any fun activities. We were wrong. We went to Berkeley Springs just 20-30 min away and had lots of fun even during a pandemic. Playing pool at the house, making a fire and playing outside we’re just additional benefits 😃
The home was truly lovely. The night sky was beautiful, and the home itself was nice. The location is secluded so we didn’t have to worry about the music being too loud. The only downside was the location of the last two rooms as they’re connected through another room. However thankfully we were all able to have fun and enjoy the game room! Everything was truly wonderful and beautiful.
Over accommodating!! From the owners to the home. This place is set up to relax and enjoy. Our sons loved fishing the creek. Our daughters loved walking the trails. The whole family enjoyed the pool table and fire pit. Kitchen was stacked with additional supplies and cookware to prepare for a large family. Overall we loved our stay and if we could give extra stars we would.
I want to thank the owners who made the process so smoothly. My family and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the homestead. There was no cell service which kind of forced us all to bond and interact more than ever. Only thing I would recommend to Janet and Tony is to update the door knobs/locks for each door as well as put up curtains or shades on the porch door, back door and side door so that the dark nights dont spook anyone. Thank you both for welcoming us into such a cozy and lovely home!
Very nice property, old, rustic with modern conveniences. Very rural and peaceful setting, glad we brought our own food!. Cabin had everything we needed for family meals. Great central point for us, as families from NC and NY were able to meet up. Children enjoyed the pool table and walking the property, we even tried fishing in the river that flows on the property boundary. Owners respond instantly to question/concerns. Loved listening the birds, lots of wild turkeys, and the moon rising over Dickie Mountain was a wonderful sight. Would recommend if looking for the rural, tranquil setting, but yet 15 mins from towns to stock up on the basics.
We came here to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday. This house reminded us of the farmhouse that she grew up in. Janet and Tony are wonderful hosts! The only reason that I did not give 5 stars across the board is because when we arrived we were unable to gain access into the property because of an issue with the door/lock. That being said, Tony and the caretaker got the issue resolved in the time that it took us to go to dinner, and were extremely happy with the rest of our stay! Got to see some wildlife during our trips as well. Would definitely recommend. Very peaceful and relaxing.
Our weekend stay was more than we had hoped for! With 7 adults on retreat, this homestead was the perfect place to sit in silence, eat breakfast on the front porch, walk down to the stream, pray the rosary, stream videos over WiFi of our spiritual exercises, and share meals and conversation in a comfortable setting. Thankful for the modern conveniences — a/c so necessary with these record-breaking weekend temperatures.
Maybe next time we’ll get to use the fire pit!
Hosts were always quick to respond to emails. Everything in the process was great.
One friend was happy I sent her the driving directions before she left home because she lost signal en route through the mountains.
The place is well-cared for and beautifully & comfortably decorated. The flowers on the grounds are lovely!

Our extended family met up here from 3 different states and had a fabulous long weekend! We had everything we needed as far as cooking tools and cookware, we brought our own condiments (and food, of course) but there is Tabasco and mustard and lots of spices available! Note there is no dishwasher so we used paper plates often just to cut down on dishwashing time on vacation.
The whole house is very clean and there are plenty of towels in the kitchen and bathrooms! The pool table was great and we all honed our pool skills. It is out I'm the middle of nowhere and it was a bit of a tough drive for our elder family members but they parked their car that one time once they got there and were along for the ride when we went to Harper's Ferry for a historical visit (we picked up pizza at The Pizza Shop in Martinsburg on the way back and heated it up at 'home' - really good pizza!) and to Buddy Lou's in Hancock, which was a super fun night out - good food and great service!
Shower pressure is good and the watervheated up quickly and the house is toasty (we didn't get much heat out of the stereo can fireplace but it looked pretty). We also had a nice walk over the hill in back and walked to the beautiful creek area...I can only imagine how fabulous it would be in warmer months. Overall, a wonderful place to stay and relax and enjoy ~ thank you, Janet & Tony, for welcoming us into your home!
Our family gathered to attend a wedding near McConnellsburg, PA. The Gordon Homestead was everything we could have asked for and more. Off the beaten path with acres of surrounding fields, woods, and creek, the farmhouse has been updated to provide all the modern conveniences while retaining its rustic origins. We loved playing pool in the game room, sitting outside on the porch and balcony, and making fires in the wonderful fire pit near the most beautiful mimosa tree. The landscaping around the farm house was beautiful, and we enjoyed seeing all the hummingbirds and butterflies and deer. We were about a 15 minute drive from Hancock, MD and a 25 minute drive to McConnellsburg, PA. Berkeley Springs was a 30 minute drive. It took us about 40 minutes to the Hagerstown airport. A wonderful getaway spot but also near enough for sightseeing, shopping, and other activities. A real gem! Thank you to our hosts!
