Birstein, located in the southern Vogelsberg region, is surrounded by open countryside and vast forests. Our house sits on a hillside above the Reichenbach River, offering an unobstructed view of the valley. The vacation rental in our lovingly restored and modernized old country house features a living room, a kitchen-dining area, a bedroom with a computer corner, and a bathroom. There is one parking space on the property, and bicycles can be stored inside the house.
The couch in the living room pulls out to a width of 1.50 m, so children can sleep on it. The TV is connected to a satellite dish. In addition to built-in cabinets with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, silverware, and standard cooking utensils, the kitchen-dining area features a comfortable dining table set. The large, air-conditioned bedroom, which features a 1.60-meter-wide bed, has a computer corner, and Wi-Fi is available. The bathroom has a 1.20-meter-wide shower stall, a sink, and a toilet. A washer and dryer are available in the laundry room. The garden is spacious enough to relax and unwind or chat around a campfire.
The town has several markets, bakeries, banks, and a cozy café. Doctors, a pharmacy, and gas stations are located in town, all just a few hundred meters from our house. The Waechtersbach swimming pool is a 15-minute drive away, and the thermal baths in Bad Soden and Bad Orb can be reached in less than 20 minutes.
The popular Vogelsberg South Cycle Route, part of the German long-distance cycling network, runs through Birstein, right past the house. Hikers will find marked loop trails in the open countryside, and walkers will discover rustic paths in the nearby forests. Worthwhile destinations include the Hoherodskopf with its climbing forest and summer toboggan run, the Steinau amusement park, the bird park in Schotten, and the historic towns of Büdingen and Gelnhausen, which are well worth a visit.
