"The Crown Hotel in Harrogate is very tired. Worn carpets. Worn and scratched furniture. Creaking floors with every step (literally). Duct tape on the carpets in the Bronte room. Stains on carpets in my room. The furniture in the "executive" suite was worn and scratch ed - honestly in need of replacement. The staff are great! Friendly, welcoming and doing the best they can in a hotel that needs updating. Almost every stair carpet is worn away at the nose of the tread. The paint on the wall in our room was bubbled and peeling in places. This hotel needs a several million GBP renovation. "

"Great place to stay in York as it’s literally minutes from the Shambles and all the amenities around them along with York Minster. Plus a walkable distance from the train station, around 15 minutes "

It was up 38 steps ( no lift to this part of the hotel) but the view made the climb worth it. Quiet despite its central location. Lovely breakfast, again with views of the Minster. Would stay again. "
