10/10 Excellent

"Stay at this hotel if you are in Porto! A beautiful clean modern hotel in a great location, with wonderful amenities. We arrived early & we were able to access our rooms straight away which made such a difference to our first day. The staff were all helpful & friendly, the breakfast was amazing & the rooms well equipped with free mini bars, coffee machines & very comfy beds. The pool is smaller than it looks in pictures but works for a city centre hotel. One of the best city hotels I have ever stayed in, excellent value for money too."

Douro Royal Valley Hotel & SPA

10/10 Excellent

"Our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. A slight delay with check in at 3pm. Our room wasn’t ready til after 4pm. I suppose it is to be expected in peak summer season. They stored our bags and we had a quick swim. Our luggage was delivered to our room and we received a bottle of wine in our room chilled ready to enjoy. The room was fabulous with gorgeous views of the Douro Valley, and the pool area relaxing. Room service was delicious and convenient. The staff were very helpful and accommodating to all of our requests. A special mention on the excellent service of Rui Cardoso. We booked a wine and cheese tasting experience on our first day. Thank you Rui for explaining all the different cheese and wine pairings. Thoroughly enjoyable. Breakfast was extravagant with a wide variety of food and beverages and a great coffee machine. Delicious. Plenty of car-parking available. Thanks for a great stay. "

Jam Porto

"Overall we had a great time staying at Jam Porto, the location is excellent with the metro station 5 mins away. The hotel was very clean and beds made daily. The pool area was lovely but we struggled to get a sun bed. The layout of the rooms was unusual and quirky and did mean they were dark inside as the bedroom was located upstairs. The stairs were also very odd, half steps to accommodate the steepness making them feel quite dangerous. There was air-con in the room but it is controlled at reception and the default setting was high, we asked for it to be lowered which it was but wasn’t very effective and it didn’t reach the upstairs bedroom at all but there was at least a fan provided for the bedroom."

"Having booked 24hours before my stay, I spent an average of £108 per night (offer rate) for a Superior Room with Terrace but I did not feel like in a 4 star rated hotel. The location is very handy, far from the noisy central streets but 6mins walk from Metro and 10mins from Santa Catarina road. Checking was nice and they welcome you with a little pastry and some porto wine. Then reality kicks in: to start, pictures of the room were not as reality and the "terrace" was facing people's windows and balconies (literally 3meters away) and the next building staircase. No privacy at all. There was no way to regulate the aircon in the room to a quite setting over night; no matter what I selected, it kept going back on to the same speed/temperature. The solution proposed by the hotel staff was to turn off the aircon switch in the room main electric panel. Also the fan in the bathroom kept going on all day and night, thank god I always travel with ear plugs. The tv also didn't work: after 2mins watching something, the picture would freeze and msg would say "LAN cable disconnected", you had to press again the menu for it to come back connected. This happened with all channels and every night of the 4 I stayed. Coffee in the room was instant powder, shame for being in a country where coffee is so important. Breakfast was ok but coffee, again, wasn't good and fresh but delivered by one of those all in one machine that mixes powders (coffee and milk) on the go."
