Freilinger See: The area around the Freilinger See lake is a special leisure and recreation area in the municipality of Blankenheim. The area around Lake Freilingen offers ideal opportunities for hiking or just walking. A forest nature trail gives visitors and observers an insight into the deciduous and coniferous tree species found here, surrounded by extensive forests, Lake Freilingen offers windsurfing, diving, rowing, canoeing, beach fishing, sport fishing, mini golf, attractive barbecue huts and a sunbathing lawn. There is also a dog area. The barbecue huts can be booked by groups from the municipality of Blankenheim. Fishing licences at the kiosk or other points of sale, boat and surfing licences at the kiosk, please apply in writing to the municipal administration in Blankenheim for diving permits. The Eifelsteig trail takes you on a multi-day hike through the Eifel National Park. You are free to choose whether you want to start your hiking tour in Aachen and walk to Trier or in the opposite direction from Trier to Aachen. The hiking tour on the 313 km long trail comprises 15 stages and leads directly through Blankenheim. Nature/Experience: Do you still remember the smell and taste of fresh bread baked in a wood-fired oven? Or do you remember how work was done in a forge? At the LVR Open-Air Museum Kommern, you can experience with all your senses how people used to live and work in the Rhineland.
Mythos Nürburgring Opened in 1927, the traditional race track has been transformed into a year-round adventure destination - with an eventful past that still fascinates today. "Grube Wohlfahrt", Hellenthal-Rescheid/Eifel A convenient entrance leads to the "Tiefen Stollen", which is accessible to visitors along with several side tunnels over a distance of around 900 metres. On display here is evidence of manual tunnelling and mining methods from the early modern period through to the pre-mechanised mining of the 19th century with black powder blasting and ore extraction using the Eifel's first mine railway powered by compressed air and then electricity. In addition to the colourful sintering, the graffiti, which is more than 100 years old, is a special feature.
