Disliked: Cleanliness, communication, location, listing accuracy
We booked this geodesic dome because we were traveling to Bluefield for a memorial service and hoped it would be a quiet, secluded place to decompress during an already difficult weekend. Unfortunately, we could not stay there at all.We had paid for early check-in, but when we arrived, the property was clearly not ready for guests. There were hundreds of flies inside, water on the bathroom floor and in the shower pan, a wet towel and washcloth left on the floor, and a used bathrobe lying around. The mini-split thermostat showed 73, but the interior felt closer to 90.The location was also very different from what we expected based on the listing. The surrounding area had several dilapidated homes, and the parking situation was extremely tight, with only one space that our vehicle could barely maneuver out of. We did not feel comfortable or safe staying there.We immediately contacted the owner, who referred us to the caretaker. The caretaker apologized and told us he didn’t even know anyone was staying that weekend because nothing was on the calendar. He offered to come clean and prepare the dome, but after arriving to those conditions, we had already lost confidence that the property was properly managed and opted to leave and pay for a hotel instead.This was extremely disappointing, especially given the reason for our trip. Instead of having a peaceful place to stay during a funeral /memorial weekend, we had to scramble for alternate lodging.
