"The hotel is perfectly placed in the centre of York and easy to get to. The staff were lovely and were able to accommodate giving us a lower-level room, which was so helpful (especially when pregnant in a heatwave!). There were lots of options available in the mini bar as well as teas, coffees, etc. The room was very comfortable and clean - we will definitely return next time we come to York."

"Cleanliness is was ok. Be prepared that is old!!! Uneven steps, no elevator, no air conditioning or room fridge! Historic is great, but none of the comforts of home. Cold attitude toward guests! Did accommodate with a fan, but that wasn’t much help. Request for ice - one glass with 4 ice cubes!"

"Really great hotel with so much attention to detail. Record players in the room and a huge selection of records is a really nice touch. The Radio was on when we arrived to our room and the Pantry is generous & a really unique touch. Canadian lady on the Bar was knowledgeable & super friendly (Pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the extensive bar menu was priced). Just really really cool & great location."

"Esme was very welcoming, informative and helpful. The communal kitchen on the ground floor was a great addition with a fridge to store snacks / drinks and cooking facilities if you want to be self-sufficient. The room was bright, big and clean with a great shower and a comfy bed. The large fan provided helped us stay cool. The only drawback to our room at the side of the guesthouse was that the nearby main road is very busy and noisy throughout most of the night it seems - but earplugs were...

"Breakfast had funny taste first day, decent second day. Front entrance mat extremely grubby and this is what welcomes you. Peeling paint, dead flower pots and no hanging baskets at front. Carpets dirty around bed, defiant tracks. Couple we was with had stayed there before, said it had definitely gone down hill with all the above mentioned plus they used to have homemade loafs of bread and jams and yogurts where much betțer on the whole seemed to be cutting costs and corners. Bed comfy and clean...
