Recommended. stay 4 nights, Room was way bigger than the average European hotel, cleanness was as expected and the staff was very helpful with all my requests, location is great with the tram right in front of the hotel, i would prefer to stay closer to the city centre, but i even walk from the city friday and saturday night and it takes like 25 mins, lot of bars and restaurants open late felt very secure walking from the city, an uber charge 12 to 15 dollars from the city, will stay again
I commend the staff first and foremost for their graciousness and professionalism. They are superbly trained and will go above and beyond to accommodate a guest. They are patient, thorough and most of all friendly and welcoming.
The breakfast buffet was excellent. Several choices, fresh and neatly displayed and the breakfast room was a lovely, peaceful start to the day.
The tram into the centre was a mere steps away and despite the proximity the room was quiet.
This place is a gem!
We were looking for a hotel near the river to spend the night before the departure of our river cruise. As it turned out, we were able to walk from Hotel Vatel to the docking location of our ship (right next to the skateboard park). Hotel Vatel is conveniently located near a tram stop from which the town center and neighborhoods with more dining and shopping options are only a few stops away.
The hotel is located about a mile away from the Bordeaux city center. There is a metro station in front of the hotel, so it’s not hard to get around. The hotel is clean and there is a refrigerator in the room. We were there three days and on the first two days we were woken up by someone pounding a hammer to repair floors. Also, the WiFi would only connect to one phone in our room at a time.
We had a great stay at the hotel. The room was spacious with modern decor. A lovely bathroom and shower and lots of storage space. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We loved the area - it was a 25 min walk along the river or quick tram ride into the Old Town. A two minute walk to the Bord’Eau village - a great complex of shops and riverside restaurants. Also near the ferry over to Darwin which is a great place to visit. Will definitely stay at Hotel Vatel on our next visit.
The room was quite large with plenty of storage space. The bathroom was large and new. Breakfast was continental with cereals, coldcuts and juices- very filling and a great way to start off the day. Very convenient to city sights and you can have a wonderful walk along the river promenade across the street from the hotel.
We would not hesitate to recommend Vatel Hotel to future travelers.
This hotel has everything going for it. Great location! Literally across the road from the Garonne River parkway the borders the river throughout Bordeaux which is a hive of activity almost any day and any time. The staff were exceptional and very helpful to international travelers. I’d recommend this hotel to fellow travelers.
Very large and comfortable room. Staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was just right. Only 12 rooms and the rest of the space is a hotel school, so seemed very busy but the 4th floor for the rooms was quiet. Great location right on the river and a few steps from the B-line tram. Easy to get to Cite du Vin in one direction and the historic city center in the other. Renovated warehouses across the way offered great shopping and cafes. We stayed 2 nights before a river cruise-it’s only a short walk to the river boats.
Overall, the room was clean and bathroom was very nice! Staff was incredibly friendly at arrival, inconsistent if they were at the front desk or not for rest of the stay. The WiFi connection was very poor. The only other thing to note is that it is a decent walk from city center — nothing to do with the hotel, but location continued to be rated high in reviews and I was surprised by how long it took to walk in (I could have mapped it more closely so that’s on me).
I stayed at this hotel twice during a month long stay in Bordeaux primarily because it was where a Trip USA Bordeaux tour started, so I added days on the front and back end of that tour. Ricardo, the day manager, was exceptionally helpful, but all of their staff is well trained as they have a hospitality training school on site. They offer breakfast as an extra but it’s rather expensive unless you’re a big eater. The room was very comfortable although I found the bedding too warm for my taste. Finally, the last night there, I discovered a blanket in the closet that I could use instead of the duvet. Like many hotels these days, they provide small square pillows, so on my second round there, I requested normal size pillows and they were provided. The location is excellent for seeing Bordeaux as the tram line is just across the street. It is within a nice, long walking distance of the old part of town, the river parkway and dozens of great restaurants. My one big complaint is that most hotels, including this one, do not provide a place to put open suitcases. I do not want to unpack and pack again, especially when only staying for a 2-4 days so I just used half of the king bed. The second part of the stay, I was placed in a handicap room which had more space and did have a large platform for my suitcase, which I really liked.
