"Never happened before. Parked, checked in, got our key - all good.
1. Arrived at room (212) to find it was not made/cleaned after the last guest. Okay, it can happen... We're not perfect either. Went back to the desk, received apologies, given another key (to 101).
2. To the room, tapped the key, opened the door - to find someone else already on the bed! It was horrifying for us - can only imagine how she felt when we just opened her door! Scary and unacceptable breakdown of guest security and systems. So, back to the desk. Received another (stronger) apology, took another key and an upgrade to "city view" (city of Newstead?). Nice enough room. Locked the doors from the inside, but just kept thinking - what if they stuff up again and we get a visitor?
Location is great, rooms were good. But the systems and processes that allowed us to be given a dirty room, and then an occupied room?? What if it was my daughter in the room and they gave a second key to some random who just walks in... Hardly worth thinking about.
Good news for them is, it's cheaper to replace management than upgrade old rooms."
