If you are very lucky the local dolphins will provide an acrobatic display. There are two large double bedrooms one with double bed and sea view, the second has twin beds and looks over the enclosed garden.

Golf enthusiasts have a lovely links course practically on the doorstep, which has stunning views over the bay.

Be sure to try the local dishes including Cullen skink, a hearty chowder-like fish soup. The clear waters here are the base for a resident colony of bottlenose dolphins, and there are several companies in the vicinity running wildlife cruises, when you could also spot seals, many seabirds and even whales.

Cullen is a wonderful little village, a real treasure trove of cute shops and cafés, and a perfect place to spend some time. Elgin and Inverness can be reached easily for a day out, as well as the famous Whisky and Castle trails. Beach ¼ mile. Shop 120 yards, pub and restaurant 350 yards.

Really enjoyed our stay at brae lodge in October half term , weather was great , unfortunately missed the northern lights but saw photos . Took us 9 hrs drive from York but worth it . Only negative I would say is the toilet needs affixing to the wall properly but still works just a clunk as you sit on it.

Location and views were top notch.

Location and views were top notch. It's a very short stroll to the square, and local shops. I would recommend booking the local cafés in advance - they were very busy. The beach, harbour beach, viaducts and castle hill are easily accessible by walking, and also the local playground for the kids. They had a great time rolling down the hill in the back garden too. As previously mentioned in other reviews, the fridge is small but perfectly serviceable. We did find the kitchen layout a bit awkward - don't leave the washing machine door ajar and shut the kitchen door, or the kitchen door is difficult to open again! Keep the kitchen door shut when cooking, as the heat/smoke detectors are VERY sensitive. We had a great time at Brae Lodge, and would definitely consider staying here again.
