Amazing Jungle Tree House right over the river with bikes and canoe

"You will not be disappointed -We recently build 3 modern cabins but the Howler House sits high in the jungle canopy over the Belize river just 20 mins from the airport. This is an off the beaten track experience in a unique and friendly village undiscovered by travellers yet central to everything. If you want to experience the local Belize and make some new friends, Kenny and Shana will pick you up and show you all Belize has to offer the curious visitor. Or, I can assist with a rental.
This sweet little tree house sits in the jungle canopy perched high on the edge of the Belize River. With Howler monkey families in the trees, crocodiles in the pond, butterflies and songbirds in the air, this is a unique piece of jungle paradise that offers you an amazing holiday destination. We have a canoe and two bicycles for you.
The house has HIGH SPEED WIRELESS internet with and is NETFLIX enabled. The bedroom has a majestic view over the river and a new queen size bed. The main bathroom has a shower with HOT WATER - no tub. The little bedroom sits off the screened in deck with a single bed and hooks for hammocks. The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, fridge and double sinks and dishes and pots and pans and bowls enough to enjoy cooking.

As well, ALL your transportation needs can be taken care of - if required. The international airport is just 20 min from the House and Kenny and Shana will pick you up, take you shopping for supplies and give you a tour of the village and check you into the house, they also provide transportation ANYWHERE you might want to explore while in Belize -- and fill you full of local knowledge. Touring with Kenny will show you how to really experience what Belize has to offer the curious visitor. If you want to use Kenny's services, I will provide you with his email and you can make arrangements with Kenny.

The village of Burrell Boom is wonderfully central to Mayan ruins, caves, zip-lining, horse-back riding, the zoo, and a good day trip to Hopkins beach -- which is a unique Garifuna village, remarkable diving sites and ocean fishing are also a day trip away. I can help you arrange transportation and/or tours to any part of the country you may dream of exploring.

While the house is a perfect romantic getaway for two, if you want to bring along family or friends, they are welcome to hang hammocks on the two screened in decks and make use of an extra single bed on the outside screened in deck. I ask for an addition $25 per night for an extra guest. The outside deck is huge, and you will probably spend most of your time there.

While the Howler House is nestled on the riverbank high in the canopy and you feel like you are deep in the jungle — really, it is just a 10 -minute walk up to the sweetest little village. If you are using his transportation services Kenny will be happy to give you a little tour of the village. But, most convenient, the Howler House is located centrally to all the activities you might want to enjoy while in Belize.
In the village you can paddle the river, go fishing and bicycling, the wildlife is amazing - birdwatchers are in heaven here; the Howler Monkeys live in the trees above us. Star-gazing and sipping on local wines is magical.
Close to home, there is a grocery store that sells local wines, rum and cold beer and a few groceries. And, the village pub, a short walk or bicycle ride away, serves ice cold beers, homemade juicy hamburgers and a delicious fried chicken or fish dinner for five bucks at Miss Carol's.They also have a pool table if you want to hang around and meet some very sweet locals and perhaps hear a good story or two. There is also a great Chinese Food restaurant in the village. And, people are soooo friendly here, if you want to, you'll make friends with the locals with ease. On Friday evenings people gather in the park to watch the teenagers play soccer and they have music and snacks and cold drinks for sale. Later, if you are a night owl, there is always dancing at Henderson's Bank on Friday and Saturday nights, just a 5 min walk away. And, there is a huge horse race track, with races on Sundays and Holidays - people come from all over for the races -- it's exciting.
A wonderful day (or overnight) trip from the house is to Cay Caulker, 90 minutes away via Belize City. You can arrange a drive with Kenny, catch the early ferry (45 mins) and spend a day exploring the Cay, or take one of the many snorkeling, diving, sailing or kayaking tours, and be back in time for dinner. Or, if you'd like to spend more time on the island, spend a night and Kenny will pick you up the next day. We can help with arranging accommodations for you too.

If you want help with travel arrangements to Belize, just let me know.

Or, you may choose to just spend your time of the Howler House deck where you can take amazing photographs, bird-watch, wait for the crocodile(s) to surface and perhaps sun themselves on the bank, get to know the howler monkeys (they like Reggie music), sit still and a Blue Morpho butterfly with an 8-inch wingspan will eventually float by. Play the stock market on-line on high-speed Wi-Fi. Lie under a gentle fan, swing in the hammock and read a good book. Write a poem, a song, a book or a blog. Watch the sun rise and the river float by, caste a line and catch a fish – yes, right from the deck when the river is flooding.

Here is my favourite Review so far:
"We spent the most unbelievable three nights at the Howler House. It was an experience to remember! The jungle setting was absolutely perfect. If you're looking for peace and quiet with only the sounds of the jungle, this is the place for you. We were picked up at the airport by a friend of Kenny's (the usual driver), Micha. WHAT A GUY!!! Micha really went out of his way to ensure that we got everything that we needed before dropping us off at the Howler House. We stopped at a grocery store on the way to the house. Make a list before hand if you can. It's a huge store! We picked up dish soap, coffee filters and toilet paper but they were not needed, so don't pick them up as they are provided. Eggs, bacon, bread and butter were all available at the store. We made breakfast everyday and enjoyed it on the screened in porch. There really is everything that you need to cook anything at the house. The canoe was a great added bonus. We took it out twice, fished a little and saw the Howler's in the trees! The bikes were also key. We took a ride through Burell Boom (sweetest little town), had fried chicken, (the best fries) and beer at Miss Carol's and spent an afternoon at the swimming pool at the Black Orchid. Fantastic drinks and we had the pool and hammocks all to ourselves. Kenny took us out for a half day trip to Bacab Eco Park. About 15 minutes from the Howler House. There we went on an hour long horseback ride through the jungle, spent a few hours at the pool and went for a stroll through the Medicinal Trail ($80.00 US each). They had delicious cheeseburgers and the drinks were also tasty (additional cost)! Take bug spray. I did get a few big fly bites. Mosquitos don't come out until about 6:00PM and are gone by 6:30PM-7:00PM. Hang out in the screened in porch during this time and they won't get to you! We did not have any issues with bugs in the house. Simply allow the doors to close behind you :-). The shower was one of my favourite parts of the house! Wide open and overlooking the jungle. It feels as though you are outside. We loved the Howler House, it made our trip! We've already recommended it to many friends and family members! Thank you Erika, Kenny, Shana & Micha!"

Great place off the beaten track

We enjoyed our stay at the Howler House, Shanna and Kenny were great, arranging our transportation and making sure we had everything we needed. They will soon have a couple of additional places you can stay at the property.

A very unique experience!!

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at the Howler House from 12/31-1/3/25. Staying in this charming jungle house on the banks of the Belize River was amazing!! We had Howler monkeys right on our deck, a crocodile in the pond and beautiful parrots flying overhead. They provide bikes and a canoe but we were not able to use them due to recent heavy rains. The best part though were our hosts Shanna and Kenny. They were in constant contact and could not do enough for us.., from picking us up at the airport, arranging our excursions, buying tickets for our transfers to Ambergris Caye. and just being caring friends!! If you are looking for a 5 star deluxe hotel this is not for you BUT if you are adventurous and looking for a unique experience and want to know more about Belize and its people and culture, you will love Howler House!! Thanks Shanna and Kenny (and your beautiful daughter Kenyiah) for such a wonderful stay!

Howler House is spectacular and I wish we had more than one day to stay. It's quiet and totally beautiful with lots of trees and river views. Shanna and Kenny were great hosts. We heard howlers across the river and four toucan perched in the trees. We walked to a nearby market and cooked dinner in a well stocked kitchen. It's very relaxed and highly recommended!

Relaxing getaway!

The Howler House was so relaxing. It has all you need to unwind and enjoy nature. The monkeys came each day, we saw iguanas and so many birds. Kenny and Shanna made sure we knew where everything was and how to get around the town. The tours we booked with them were amazing, very personalized. My husband has some mobility issues from a stroke, we had no problem doing the zipline, cave tubing, horseback riding. They were willing to accommodate with an easy pace and we had great guides on each tour! The Mayan chocolate tour is excellent! Hands on and yummy tasting. We would definitely recommend this property and tours they offer.

Worst trip ever

The description of a romantic, relaxing stay is not true. They have 3 more cabins being built close by, so people were around all the time. When the host told us that she would have us picked up at the airport, that was true but the managers charged us 55 US dollars. When we needed a ride to pick up a rental vehicle we were charged another 35. The rides were about 15 minutes long. They also didn't tell us that there was no longer a washer, so we packed thinking we could wash clothes. My husband had to get up on a stool (71 years old) to stuff paper towel in all the gaps along the roof so we weren't biten by bugs any more. I had more than 50 bites that itch like crazy - not fun. We must have spent a couple hours trying to close up gaps at the bottom and top of doors, also holes in the screens.Very disappointing after you save up to go on vacation. Shannon and Ken pock us

A time of rest

This truly was a house in the trees. We enjoyed our time next to the river and surrounded by wildlife. The troup of 7 Howler monkeys that make the surrounding 5 acres home would make their way to the river late every afternoon. We enjoyed the location close to the airport/Belize City as well as Altun Ha mayan site, Belize zoo, and fresh roadside produce. The property manager was easy to get in touch with by text and was very helpful. We spent a lot of time in the hammocks resting and watching birds on the screened-in porch. We will come back again.

Would come back again

What an amazing experience. Beautiful place along the Belize River. Took advantage of the canoe and paddled the river several times. Access to launch the canoe is a little rough but worth the effort. Our hosts made sure everything that we needed was there. Comfortable, clean and very private. The Howler monkeys paid us a visit in the trees late one evening. Remarkable. It does sit back in and a flash light is a must if you come home after dark. It is well worth a stay,

We very much enjoyed our stay at The Howler House. When we walked inside, we noticed the cleanliness of the property. Kenny took us to a local bakery, meat shop, and grocery where we were able to buy food to cook. At this point in our trip, we were ready to skip the restaurants. We also stopped at a roadside food stand and were able to buy a lunch of chicken, beans, and rice. We enjoyed seeing more of the local culture at these places. The place is much bigger than expected with a lot of outdoor decks to enjoy viewing the peacefulness of the river. There are fans everywhere, but be prepared--it is hot and humid. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it if you want an adventure. We did not see any wildlife. My husband tried the canoe, but the dock is not in good shape in which to launch

This is a lovely, secluded retreat. We saw so many reviews of monkeys and animals, sadly that was not our experience. The hosts are lovely and extremely helpful. Be aware that this is VERY rustic stay, so be prepared for massive bug issues and extreme heat. The fans help, but if you are not prepared to sleep in 85 degree weather with massive humidity- this is uncomfortable. We were a bit naive about the reality of this, not the fault of the owners, just not the best choice for us. We would have loved to have encountered the monkeys. We were able to hear 1x. This is a great option for those wanting a more rugged look at jungle options.

Nature Lovers Alert!

Going to Belize and staying at Howler House was a trip of a lifetime. A true jungle experience awaits you in this secluded jungle house. During my one month stay, I saw and heard many birds, many iguanas, and dozens of butterflies. Not to mention seeing or hearing the howler monkeys almost every day. A peccary also made an appearance a few times. You fall asleep every night to jungle sounds. Overlooking the Belize River, it was a peaceful, tranquil experience. I walked around town every day, being greeted by the friendly Belizeans. I occasionally rode the bicycle or walked over the the excellent restaurant at Black Orchid Resort, although Howler House has a fully equipped kitchen. The local food was delicious and very flavorful. The housecarers, Kenny and Shanna were very attentive and took very good care of me. They are also available for day trips should one desire to see outside Burrell Boom. I would recommend this place for anyone who wants to experience real jungle living. It is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy God's creation.

Jungle Oasis

The Howler house exceeded our expectations. The location is amazing: the river right behind you, surrounded by trees. There was a toucan living in a knot in the tree out by the stairs- it was a smaller variety with a black and white beak! Every morning we woke up to bird sounds that sounded like a movie soundtrack. We saw the monkeys a few times and listening to them was amazing. We took the canoe out a few times and also walked around Burrell Boom. The house has screened in porches on 2 sides and a back porch along the back so plenty of places to sit and read or listen to the sounds around you. We had cell service at the house, if that is a concern for you. The kitchen had everything we needed. The furniture was comfortable and overall the place looked like a comfy cabin with colorful seat cushions and some items from the owner's world travels. A BIG bonus to this stay are Kenny and Shanna, the managers. I highly recommend using them for transportation/guides if you don't want to rent a car. They are wonderful people and have lived in Belize their whole lives so can tell you lots of interesting info. We booked a tour to Lamanai through them- highly recommend it!- and they picked us up from the airport and drove us to the ferry terminal at the end of our stay. I am mostly an introvert but Kenny and Shanna are so easy to be around. Their company really added to our trip. Cannot recommend them enough!

We loved it here

We were the 1st visitors in since the pandemic shut down the world. We had read up on this property and were very excited to be staying here and let's just say that we were not disappointed. My 3 kids and I had a lovely time going out to visit the howler monkeys, the baby crocodile, the frogs, and the iguanas. Wes, next door, helped us find the howler monkeys and meet them. Kenny and Shanna were absolutely lovely hosts. They checked on his frequently and helped arrange everything we needed. I would highly recommend booking one or several tours with them. They can help you go anywhere in that part of the world. We especially enjoyed our cultural experience tour with them and got to know lots of people in the area and had a lovely adventure, Including the battery sanctuary, woodcarving, and a lovely dinner with their family. While we were at this place we went to the Belize zoo, the gift shop at the Belize prison, Altun ha, cave tubing, ziplining, and on a fabulous cultural experience. It would also be easy to go to ATM Cave, Caye Caulker, and the Hol Chan reserve from there as well. It would be extremely easy to do a day trip to San Ignacio from there and see Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, AJAW chocolate, and the Iguanas Conservation Project too. Or you could just hang out in a hammock all day and relax. I can't say enough about what a great place this is to stay. Please remember that it is in a wooded area next to the river so bring bug spray to use when you are out exploring. We would go again to stay at this place in a heartbeat and are hoping to come back soon.

The Howler House lived up to it’s name! As we arrived a family of Hower monkeys came to eat from the trees above! I had one night in Belize and wanted to experience the rain forest. Here we got to see the friendly croc in the river, red and green iguanas in the tree outside, parrots, monkeys and more! We lounged in the hammocks and took the canoe out for a ride. No AC but fans kept us plenty cool! We hired Kenny as transportation and he took us everywhere we wanted and shared a wealth of information! We had an amazing time here!

I loved the location and serenity of this place. But best of all was the wildlife! Howler monkeys come up really close, like right to the front trees. We saw 2 crocs in the river and a baby croc in the pond. Parrots and iguanas in the trees as well. My 6 year old daughter loved it as well. I really wish we could have stayed a whole month here.

The setting is magnificent with howler monkeys, birds galore, iguanas and the mosquito eating geckos on the Belize River. All of this and only 6 miles to the airport. Start or end your stay in Belize in the jungle! This location is hard to find so be sure to have directions. Great eats down the road at Jamesville Restaurant!

Best spot on the river

Our stay was just what we had hoped for - a relaxing time with nature. We made use of the bikes to get a feel for the community and find Ms. Carol's, where we enjoyed her company and a good typical Belizean dinner. We met other interesting locals at the nearby general store. After that it was all canoeing for us. We didn't spot the croc in the pond, but we did see four in the river. We were lucky to have the howler monkey family come through twice, once crossing on the log right below our balcony. There were plenty of up-close iguanas as well. We spent one afternoon at the Black Orchid, where for the price of lunch, we had their pool all to ourselves. During another canoe trip we crossed paths with Dawson (the coconut man), and had a fun and educational chat with him in the middle of the river. Shana and Kenny offered many interesting trip opportunities and were most helpful & professional, but the nice weather and available canoe combined to make it too hard for us to leave our jungle spot...we were content to enjoy a real vacation staying right at the Howler House.

Neat cabin

Our review is limited by the short overnight stay but even so we were able to appreciate how special this cabin and its location are. You feel like you are roughing it in the middle of the jungle yet you are in a well appointed cabin not far from any needs. The set up amongst the trees by a river is beautiful and nature watching from the comfortable balcony hammocks is very relaxing. We hope to come back for a longer stay.
