Ellen's Cottage

Ellen’s Cottage is a beautifully presented, 17th century cottage located on Boardmans Farm, one of the oldest buildings in Hawkshaw dating back to 1707. The cottage is full of character but with all the modern requirements for a cosy stay. It's an ideal choice for the perfect couples getaway.

Ellen’s Cottage can be found up a quiet lane with no through traffic. The picturesque exterior with centuries of character is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The gardens are south-west facing over the landscape and have outdoor furniture where guests can soak up the sun in the summer before heading inside the rustic, cosy cottage.

On entering the cottage, the oak beams against the white walls oozes charm throughout, a grandfather clock setting the tone of this historic building. A log fire will warm those cold evenings, and a comfortable sofa to relax in sits off the stairs to the bedroom adjacent to the kitchen at the rear, well-stocked with all the amenities and utensils required to cook up a feast.

Up the stairs can be found the luxurious four poster double bed, enjoying countryside views to the south. The bathroom is equipped with a bath and shower, with complimentary amenities for your stay.

The local pub is only 1 mile down the lane to Hawkshaw Village, where you will find further amenities at the village store.

Ellen’s Cottage has parking for two cars.

Two well-behaved pets are welcome and should never be left alone in the property.

Beautiful peaceful cottage

Such a tranquil cottage in a beautiful part of the country. Cottage was so cool as we experienced a really hot week so good to come back to. The only thing we felt could improve was maybe fence in the back garden to contain the dogs we felt a bit awkward if they wandered in front of the next cottage.

Lovely old stone cottage with lots of original features in stunning countryside.

Everything you could need for a lovely stay. Our dog enjoyed it too. Lovely pub at the end of the lane serving great food and beers.

Lovely stay cosy and great field for the dog to play..

Sally was a fabulous host, prompt replies, lovely to deal with, can't fault the cottage at all. only cons I can think of is that brighter lights heading down the steps also rubber coating in the steps as the last morning was extremely slippy and also bit of lighting would have been nice outside the back...but overall we had a lovely stay and will hopefully return if Sally will have us

My husband and I had the most amazing stay in this lovely little cottage

My husband and I had the most amazing stay in this lovely little cottage. We found ourselves in between homes whilst we wait to move house and this cottage was perfect for us. Really cosy, comfy bed and well kitted out kitchen. Plus beautiful surroundings, views and walks. Sal and Phil were really accommodating as we not only had our newborn but our pets. Amazing hosts, so welcoming and we wouldn’t hesitate in rebooking! The perfect pre moving day break - huge thank you again! Jess, Nick, Zach, Skye 🐾 & Kobi 🐾 x

Ellen's cosy cottage

We loved looking out on the sheep and lambs in the fields from the cosy bedroom with its four poster bed and wonky beams. Sally, our host gave us a friendly welcome chat and settled us in with two pints of milk. The kitchen has everything you need, the bathroom has big fluffy towels and the television and wi-fi reception is excellent. Parking was easy and the garden was full of beautiful yellow irises. In the back garden is a seating area which would be great should the weather be warm and sunny. We were grateful that the central heating came on as the weather was chilly when we stayed. There are lights strung on the handrail leading down to the cottage which were helpful in the dark. We would certainly recommend Ellen's Cottage and look forward to a return visit. The cottage gave us everything we needed and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, so nothing needed improving as far as we were concerned.

Ellen's Cottage in Hawkshaw was a lovely place for us to base ourselves in.

Ellen's Cottage in Hawkshaw was a lovely place for us to base ourselves in, down a narrow laneway in a quiet area with a great view. The Cottage had everything we needed. Next to the Cottage is a laundry with a washing machine and clothes drier. There is a great pub with delicious meals on the corner of Hawkshaw Lane and Bolton Street which operates Tuesday to Saturday. There is a Supermarket and Petrol/Service Station about 10 minutes away which operates 7 days a week. The laneway has quite large potholes in a few places and there are no street lights for night driving. There are a few stairs to encounter from the car park down to the entrance to the Cottage. Inside the Cottage is a steep and narrow staircase. On the left of a small landing is another step to get into a very large bathroom and on the right of the landing is a couple of steps to get into a very large bedroom. Heating upstairs and downstairs is on a timer but the Host will adjust the timer to your needs.

Beautiful spot

Beautiful spot, if you’re wanting to escape busy places & be around greenery / peace & quite, this is perfect. You’re not too far away from convenience though too I might add. Sally is super helpful in every way, can’t fault her hosting Look forward to booking again!

cosy cottage in a beautiful location,

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location. Ellens Cottage is an old quaint, small stone cottage in the heart of the Lancashire countryside, yet close enough to get to all the major towns. On our first night we walked with our dogs (1mile) to the Waggon and Horses pub and had a lovely meal. The walk back was in the dark, and it is very dark, so bring a torch. The listing mentions pot holes in the road up to the cottage. They are not bad pot holes at all, I have driven on much worse main roads! It is a lovely cottage in a stunning location and we will hopefully be staying again. Nothing really, could do with a torch.

So beautiful and such a charming location with great views!

So beautiful and such a charming location with great views! It’s so far on the back of the street, clearer instructions on location would have been helpful. There were also cobwebs everywhere inside.

Lovely location - few touches missing to make us feel welcomed and comfortable.

Lovely location. Some small features missing - no wood left for the fire, no independent control of heating, few cobwebs suggesting cleaning could be a little better, no reserved parking space near property, lighting outside property poor when arriving in the dark.
