"This hotel may have once been a popular choice of VIPs when the Channel Tunnel was being built, but that was 30+ years ago, which may be the last time it was decorated, the beds and carpets were renewed and the plumbing was serviced. Any of a certain vintage (and perhaps UK visitors only) will remember Faulty Towers… well don’t think you’re likely to meet the real life Basil Faulty at The Metropol, even Basil wouldn’t stay here. We booked and paid for two nights, but could not bear to stay more than the one night we let ourselves in for… to top off our horrendous experience, we were charged €4 each for a 50cl bottle of water for the room, which had clearly cost the hotel less than an euro. Do not stay here unless you wish to be ripped off and experience one of the worst hotel, room and night’s sleep you’ve likely ever had."

"I have stayed in 43 hotels in the past year. When a hotel says they have on site parking it is usually correct but there is none here. Its a good walk from the hotel. There is no kettle in the rooms, as advertised, but they do have a machine downstairs which is okay I suppose but for the price it is okay as long as your paying 60 euro or less oer night. Any more than 50gbp or 60 euro and your better off with a hotel with parking etc. Apart from these trifling matters it is okay for a night."
