Casa Maya is to be found in the Candolim area of Goa. Its most obvious attraction is Candolim beach, which is only five minutes walk from the property. Candolim beach forms a long stretch of coastline along the Arabian Sea that stretches from Fort Aguada to Chapora beach. Although Candolim has one of Goa s least commercialised (and most beautiful) beaches, it offers visitors plenty of facilities, including bars, clubs, restaurants and hotels of all types.
Candolim was the birthplace of Abbe Faria, who was one of Goa s most celebrated freedom fighters and is widely regarded as the father of hypnotism. At one end of Candolim beach is Fort Aguada, which was built in 1612 by the Portuguese. This is a famous and historic Goan fort and is well worth visiting. On the northern side of the fort are two beaches. One of these is Calangute, a popular and highly commercialised tourist centre that provides a broad range of entertainment venues.
