"We chose Pistoia as the base for a two-day visit to Florence. This plan worked great. Hosts Carlo and Lucia have a quirky compound located a short walk from the train station. We parked our rental car for the duration, and used the regional train service (frequent and cheap) to get to Florence. (Ask Carlo about his motorcycle collection.) While C & L don't speak English or French and we don't speak Italian, communication was no problem: beyond Google, they use the new generation of on-the-fly translation devices. Each morning, they laid on a nice spread for breakfast, so our mornings did not start hungry. Warm and personable couple, convenient location."

When we first arrived, there was a light smell of smoke in the room and a minor issue with cleanliness. We let the host know, and they responded right away with genuine kindness. They arranged another room for us for the next two nights, and when we returned to the original room, everything had been taken care of and felt fresh and comfortable. The host was incredibly considerate — always checking in to make sure we were comfortable, and even looking up the bus and train schedules for us as we waited on our last day. That small act of kindness left a big impression. It’s easy to see why this place has such a great reputation. We had been a bit tense after a not-so-great stay at a previous hotel, but the host and staff here really helped us feel at ease.
