We started out for the hotel from La Garita, and followed our GPS - at night time. It took 1-1/2 hours to get there over some of the most dangerous roads I had ever encountered. The hotel web site advised going by way of Zarcerio, but that did not work in our GPS. Several times I was very tempted to turn back. We had a wonderful Christmas week at Canal Grande Lodge! Raffael and his staff were excellent hosts who made sure we had everything we needed. The small hotel was quiet and beautifully situated. My daughter and I had the great pleasure of visiting this beautiful coffee plantation. The staff, the food, the coffee, and the atmosphere exceeded our expectations. This is a brand new property, recently built. This hotel has a great location, steps from the Costa Rica Convention Center, there are shopping malls, clinics, restaurants, at walkable distance. There is shuttle service to the SJO airport, Breakfast was great too including costarican typical food. Hope to be staying here again soon!

This hotel (not really kind of a retreat/B&B) is set away from the surrounding towns and is in the middle of a small working farm. You drive past cows and milking stalls on the way in....you feel that you're stepping even further away from your busy life to a simpler time. The staff at the Bougainvillea welcome and get to know each and every one of their guests. You feel like you are a guest in their own home. This was an amazing hotel, the property was beautiful and there are trails for you to explore through the jungle. The rooms were simple and rustic, not too fancy which is exactly what we were looking for. The staff, including Diego, is extremely friendly, kind, and helpful. Would not hesitate to go back!

Great experience ! Dave ,Marsha, Elezar and the staff went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable ,and everything was taken care of. Treehouse was amazing. My 18-year-old son kept saying "Wow!" We did three guided tours (Night, Birdwatching, and Rainforest Hike), all interesting and informative. Food was great. Only regret is not staying longer.

From the moment we stepped from our transfer, we were treated royally - the staff is trained well, very friendly, and efficient! Were 3 days of rest, peace, tranquility, fresh air, excellent food, hiking and excellent treatment by all hotel staff. It really was much more than I expected and a nice find.

so I loved this hotel the first few nights. But there is a lot of stuff that I need to warn others. There's nothing to do here besides a few nature walks. There is a lovely fireplace in each cabin and the cabins are lovely but there is a very very long and bumpy ride to get to the villa. I literally cringe thinking about this 45 minute road just to get access to the property. The service is great, the food is great but it's all very VERY expensive. Our 1st time in Costa Rica for a family wedding. Stayed here because it was only 20 minutes from the Int’l Airport after a long day of travel and another day of driving ahead. Margarita is an excellent hostess/owner who was very helpful and kind.
