About this property
Bradley Cross Farm, Shepherds Cottage
High on the Mendip Hills, sits a stone cottage on a working farm, with breathtaking views over the Somerset Levels. The cottage was built around 1850 and was formerly occupied by the local shepherd grazing his sheep on this area of the Mendip Hills. Today the land is grazed by the traditional breeds of Longhorn Cattle and Wiltshire Horn Sheep, well suited to managing the natural grassland on the farm. Cheddar Gorge, Site of Special Scientific Interest, lies to the north of the farm and Mascalls’ Wood, an ancient woodland, lies to the west. Cheddar village and local shops are a distance of about 1 mile from the cottage. Ideal for walkers and close to the Mendip Way.

My son and I had a super stay in the cottage during a two-day visit to the Avalon marches for birding. We were warmly welcomed by Judy and Paul and their friendly dogs and, despite the blustery, wet weather when we arrived, were very warm and cosy inside. The kitchen is well equiped and the shower lovely and hot. Woodburner lovely to come back to after a day out. Magnificant views over cheddar. Would love to stay again.
Super cosy pet friendly sheperds hut with all necessary facilities! And what a view! Paul and Judy definitely made the stay even better! Highly recommened! Several beautiful walks from the farm and a complete map with loads of tips and activities!
We had a lovely time in this cottage. It's cozy and has all the simple amenities one will need. The family that runs it is lovely and told us all about their farm and the surrounding land.
A thoroughly enjoyable stay, in a great location. Eating breakfast looking out over Cheddar was wonderful. A nice small property, great hosts with good communication. Will be visiting again!
Lovely quaint cottage with fabulous views, local shops about a mile away, two adorable dogs and very pleasant owners, recommended is a must for me,

We had an amazing stay at Bradley Cross Farm. The owners was very lovely and very helpful and their 2 dogs are super friendly too. Highly recommend if you like a bit of an adventure but looking for a very quiet place to stay.
Has everything that needed for a stay over.
The hosts are great, Paul's down to earth and likes a little banter, and Judy is very friendly.
Excellent location for Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole!
Cosy, compact property overlooking Cheddar and the Somerset Levels. We found the property to be ideal for our short stay with excellent walking direct from the cottage. Paul and Judy were very helpful and made us welcome, helping with any info required. The farm dogs (Meg & Tess) were friendly and interacted well with our dog (Ralph). My advice would be to ensure you thoroughly read the directions to find the property, and your vehicle needs a degree of power to navigate the route to the cottage. However once reached the views are stunning from this small, quirky but comfortable property
Last minute booking, the hosts were great and very responsive to our request to bring 2 dogs. Perfect little cottage for dogs, had all the amenities you need and very well located. The area is very dog friendly and we would not hesitate to return.
Paul and Judy were wonderful hosts, nothing was to much trouble. The views were stunning, the location is great, just a short walk to cheddar Gorge,Tess and Meg were also perfect hosts.we can’t wait to return,Thank you Paul and Judy
This was such a precious place. Judy and Paul are very kind. Great location, beautiful views, comfy living situation, and amazing dogs that I will miss. Loved the wood stove. Thank you so much for having us, Cheddar was a great experience! Neighborhood is amazing, walk around it if you can

Paul was very easy to work with prior to trip and a delight in person. The converted barn has all the ingredients for a restful retreat nestled in a beautiful farm looking out over Cheddar and surrounds. We had a great time with hosts that got the balance right between friendly and helpful and leaving us to do our own thing. Would be back in a flash if Australia wasn’t so far away.
This accommodation was perfect for my partner and I who needed to be in Cheddar with our dog for a couple of nights. The accommodation was as pictured, the shower was hot and powerful, the kitchen had 2 electric hob rings/microwave and fridge. All the required utensils for simple cooking, tea, coffee and sugar . Logs for the wood burner were also provided.
We enjoyed staying in Paul and Judy’s shepherd hut. It is small and cozy and had everything we needed. The farm is open and has wonderful walking trails up to the top of the hill and over looking the gorge. We saw the cows and sheep Doug had a great visit with Paul, learning about the rare cows and sheep they raise. Be sure to get some local eggs and Jam from the farm- we were sad to realize we could have had fresh eggs after we bought some in town!
Highly recommend this as a place to stay and enjoy the Cheddar area!
basic property but had everything needed. Just felt at home and welcome from minute arrived. Good walk to Cheddar Gorge. View is just incredible could look at all day. Plenty of places to explore within local area, good base
For day out…dogs had a wonderful time and made to feel welcome too..would happily return..
Excellent secluded spot outside and overlooking Cheddar, out in wide open fields within a minute and up to the gorge in about 15.
Rustic, cosy little house with all the essentials and a stocked wood burner.
Friendly host and dogs! Also had a small milk in the fridged stocked when we arrived which was a nice touch.
2 single beds might not be up all couples' streets, but well worth it otherwise.
Small cost cottage at the top of the hill over looking Cheddar. The view is stunning. Judy and Paul are very welcoming to their small farm and it’s a great base to visit the local area especially if you are a walker or you want peace and quiet. Plenty of places to eat locally. Thankyou.
A real gem, cosy, comfortable, fab location, lovely hosts
We had a very lovely stay. The Shepherds hut has everything you need for a relaxing stay, location, views, facilities and very welcoming and kind hosts. We really enjoyed the tranquility and the abundance of unspoilt nature and wildlife at the property and beyond. We were warmly greeted on our arrival, parked our vehicle and there it stayed until we had to leave ( didn't want too!) Great local area to explore on foot, with lots of helpful information and tips from Paul who made us feel very welcome including our little four legged rascal .A big thank you and we very much look forward to returning
Exactly as described and exactly as other users have set out. Lovely little bolthole at the top of the lane on a farm with a view for days. Simple and effective. Worth going back for Paul andJudy alone, fab hosts. We will be back.
Paul and Judy have an ideal retreat waiting for you to enjoy a peaceful exploration of the area. The cottage sits atop a hill with a glorious view to enjoy after a days walking in the hills and woods. The accommodation is basic but perfectly comfortable and has all you need for a break from the everyday pressures of normal life. The shower has real power to wake you up too. Paul and Judy a very hospitable and are unobtrusively available should you require help. Their two dogs are extremely friendly. All in all a very good choice for a stay in the area and we thank you for looking after us so well.
