About this property

Period Cotswold Cottage with outdoor bar & open views

  • Sunnybank is a detached 19th-century stone cottage in Milton-under-Wychwood with open countryside and far reaching views. Original stonework and beams sit alongside a light, contemporary interior; the character of an old Cotswold house and the comforts of a new one.

The open-plan kitchen, dining and living room is where everyone ends up, with bi-fold doors that open the space onto the garden; for a quieter hour there is the beamed snug.

Sunnybank Cottage is a house for any season: the snug's wood-burning stove for winter evenings, the covered garden bar for summer ones, with the fields stretching away in front of you.

Footpaths into beautiful Cotswold countryside start at the garden gate. The Hare pub, shops, restaurants, cafes and a play park are all a short walk from the front door.

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • Far-reaching countryside views, including from two of the bedrooms.

    • Covered garden bar with beer fridge, dining table and festoon lights, plus Weber charcoal barbecue.

    • Open-plan kitchen, dining and living room with bi-fold doors to the garden.

    • Garden gate straight onto countryside walks.

    • Separate beamed snug with wood-burning stove.

    • King, double and twin bedrooms, roll-top bath, walk-in shower and downstairs loo.

    • Wine cooler, Nespresso, Moka pot and Aarke sparkling water machine.

    • Separate utility room.

    • Free private parking for three cars; fast Wi-Fi throughout.

    • Welcome basket on arrival for stays of two nights or more

    LIVING SPACE

The open-plan kitchen, dining and living room is the showpiece; one light-filled space with a six-person dining table and a lounge with a large L-shaped sofa and smart TV with surround sound. The bi-fold doors open right back, so on a warm day the garden becomes part of the room.

For quieter evenings, the cosy snug has comfy seating, a TV and a wood-burning stove; ideal for curling up with a good book, settling in for a film or enjoying a glass of wine by the fire.

There’s also a downstairs loo and a generous utility room with washing machine, dryer, sink, iron and clothes horse, making Sunnybank particularly well suited to longer stays and family holidays.

    KITCHEN

Fitted out for people who like to socialise while cooking: a five-burner gas hob, double oven & grill, double fridge & double freezer, and a wine cooler. The extras run to a Nespresso machine, Italian Moka pot, an Aarke sparkling water machine, bread maker, soup maker, blender, juicer, and toastie machine.

    BEDROOMS

Three bedrooms, all upstairs among the original beams, each with plenty of storage, comfy beds and quality linens. The main bedroom has a king-size bed and a window that frames open countryside as far as you can see. The second is a double, and the twin room also looks out over the fields. Perfect for flexible sleeping arrangements.

    BATHROOMS

The main bathroom combines traditional charm with modern comfort, with a beautiful roll-top bath and separate shower. Guests are provided with soft Dusk towels and complimentary Minimal shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

    OUTDOOR SPACE

The lawned garden looks across the fields, with plenty of room for children to play. At the far end, the covered garden bar is made for long evenings outside: beer fridge, dining table, festoon lights and the countryside in front of you, with a Weber charcoal barbecue alongside. From the garden gate, footpaths lead straight out into the Cotswold countryside.

    FOR FAMILIES

Board games, colouring books, toys and a shelves of books for a wet afternoon, and a play park two minutes' walk down the road.

    THE VILLAGE

The surrounding area offers easy access to some of the Cotswolds' best-known destinations: Burford (10 mins) for independent shops and a classic high street, Stow-on-the-Wold (12 mins) for its historic market square and antiques, Bourton-on-the-Water (15 mins) for its picturesque riverside setting, and Chipping Norton (15 mins), a lively market town. Milton-under-Wychwood is one of the Cotswolds’ more understated villages, offering a genuine sense of local life away from the busier tourist spots. Set within the Evenlode Valley, it forms part of the historic Wychwood villages, an area once at the heart of the ancient royal hunting forest.

The pace here is slower and more relaxed, with everything you need within easy reach.

    Food, drink & village life

Within walking distance are several well-regarded pubs and local spots:

    • The Hare is a standout village pub known for its fresh seafood specials and relaxed atmosphere
    • The Crown is a historic inn overlooking the village green
    • The Lamb - a classic, easy-going local

For more casual options, the village has a rotating line-up of takeaways during the week, along with a deli, café and independent food spots nearby, making it easy to settle in without needing to drive.

    Outdoors & things to do

The surrounding area is ideal for walking, with footpaths in every direction and easy access to open countryside.

A short distance away, Wychwood Wild Garden offers peaceful woodland walks across 12 acres of gardens, ponds and wildlife, providing a quiet, restorative space to explore.

Nearby, Bruern Farms combines a café, farm shop and seasonal events, with beautiful countryside surroundings and walking routes, and sunflower fields in the summer months.

For families, there are local play parks within the village, along with open green spaces and plenty of room to explore.
