Comfortable, Quiet, and Remote Studio On A Working Ranch In Southern Arizona
10/10 Excellent
"This place is amazing. An adorable little cottage/building on a working ranch right beside the ranchers' homes - father and son family. The patriarch came over just after we got there and talked about the ranch and its family history. The following day we met the son and the DIL. Very, very nice people and loved hearing about the local area and was able to ask questions. Lots of birds and wild turkeys came right up to the porch. Cattle in the pens near the cottage and more grazing on the property.
The cottage is really cute. Small kitchen with "apartment sized" appliances but everything you need for a quick breakfast or dinner. Note you have to bring everything with you though as no grocery store close. That is a minor inconvenience and the quality of the place makes the inconvenience well worth it.
Went to Chiricahua National Monument for a day of hiking. One of the best National Park sites we have visited and we have been to a lot! This cottage is the most convenient lodging to the NM - just a few miles up the road. The hiking was out of this world - hiked the Echo Canyon and Heart of the Rocks Loop. The park has a hiking shuttle available on certain days to help with logistics. Cannot recommend this property and the Chiricahua NM enough!!"
"We highly recommend this listing! There’s so much to enjoy there. The location is great for birders and other nature lovers. There’s little to no light pollution, so the Night Sky is glorious. The view from the deck looks out to a garden that has been created to attract pollinators. In the near distance the Chiricahua mountains form a striking backdrop. The inside has been planned with comfort in mind for renters. The living/dining area’s futon is cozy if you want to watch the flat screen TV or read a book. You could eat a meal at the bar height table for two and you might find that you have someone watching you from the window: a hummingbird! All the needed appliances are there. We appreciated and used the washer and dryer. The bathroom has a wonderful shower that gives you options of where you want the water to come from. We enjoyed the screened-in porch, which has a lovely fireplace. We didn’t end up lighting a fire as the days were warm and the nights were too. We didn’t feel that though inside the cabin because of the mini-splits which delivered lovely cool air. We were early risers so that we could be out and about looking for birds. But if you wanted to sleep in the bedroom’s blackout curtains will help you do that. The hosts were wonderful to work with. Thoughtful without being intrusive. We appreciated the bottled water, the dining recommendations and their knowledge of the area. We hope to visit again!"
Private Estate for Family Reunion, Weddings, Business Retreat, and Vacations
10/10 Excellent
"We just came back from 3 nights at the Painted Pony for our family reunion. There was enough space for all 29 of us, and we had room for our big meals, karaoke, crafts, games, swimming, and lots of time together. It was lovely to go outside in the evenings and see the stars, and we found a perfect spot for a professional photographer to come take family portraits. The host and caretaker were very helpful and attentive without being in the way or hovering. We had such a great stay!"
Observatory Cabin Near Rodeo & Animas, NM & Portal, AZ
10/10 Excellent
"As a solo traveler I felt safe and comfortable! I loved the little house, it was a perfect getaway. John and Cathy work hard to make it feel like a home and everything was clean and comfortable. I had a great 'star party' with John and learned a lot, as someone with zero astro experience, it was fun and approachable!"
"We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer. The property is excellent in all ways - everything was spotless, the living quarters and kitchen very spacious, the bedrooms perfect with very comfortable beds, and the bathrooms very good. The check-in process was seamless, communication with the host excellent, and there was a lot of information material on the area available. We especially enjoyed the quiet and fairly remote area - the dark night sky was breathtaking, and there were lots of birds on the property, perfect for us birders. We highly recommend this property and hope we can come back."
