Lovely family run hotel with a great sea view. The bed was very comfortable and the room spotless. Free parking in front. Loved the breakfast with sea view.
Most important aspect of the hotel is its location. While it offered lovely views, if you arrived by train to SJDL and walked to the hotel, you’d found yourself with the task of climbing over 85 public stairs that were not maintained and had no railing. In addition, there is nothing - ZERO - near the hotel in the way of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, that didn’t require going down or up those stairs. If you went into town for dinner, you returned to find the stairs unilluminated in the evening. No mention of this in the hotel description on Expedia.
Room was clean with a wonderful view of St. Jean-de-Luz. Bathroom shower was, however, in need of serious attention - the grout being black in many spots. Two paper cups for brushing your teeth (we were a couple) were provided for three day-stay. They were never replace, even after we tossed one due to its having become soggy. Waste bin liner in the bathroom was pulled out and never replaced - the waste bin had holes, so that you were throwing trash into a waste bin in the hopes it didn’t fall through. There were no other bathroom amenities. Coffee cups were never replaced - not too big of a deal, since no coffee was provided in the room (there was a kettle). Breakfast buffet for EUR15 was adequate.
I had a wonderful stay here at this beautiful hotel.
The room was lovely, and the service was excellent.
My only caution is for those with mobility issues- the beautiful views of this hotel are due to being on top a a large hill. If you will not have a car. I hope you are fit!
10/10 will stay again
Parking was difficult and tight, limited spots available. For those not used to backing into a parking spot in rugged terrain… might be a challenge. Room was sufficient but black spots in shower and screws between bathroom and room not flush to the floor… someone could hurt themselves. Quiet, except in AM when neighbor remodeling his home. Beautiful view of St Jean de Luz.
The access would be difficult in a large car; it’s up a steep hill and down a gravel track so if you’ve got a Maserati, go somewhere more expensive!
We didn’t have a sea view room but I wish we’d paid more to get one- the hotel is in a lovely, elevated position above the town. We had a view of the building site next door (oh well).
Comfortable bed and a good night’s sleep. We were particularly impressed with the buffet breakfast featuring local products - although at 15ish Euros, it wasn’t cheap.
Really cute place and it's really easy to walk to restaurants, bars and cafes within 5min. It's also a nice walk to he city centre which is 15-20min away but we didn't feel it took that long as the walk is by the water and beautiful scenery. Clean, comfortable and staff were nice. The parking can be a bit tricky for SUV and big cars as you need to drive up a narrow streets but once you park there you walk walk to everywhere so it wasn't an issue for us highly recommend this place.
