Absolutely beautiful hotel and lovely staff. You are made to feel valued and welcome from everyone. The housekeeping staff are non intrusive, efficient and respectful of your privacy. The pub stuff are phenomenal, excellent and quick service with perfectly made cocktails. The breakfast/dining room is beautiful. The food is fresh, served quickly and the host and serving staff are kind and friendly. I cannot say enough good things about the ladies at reception. They were so helpful with my package deliveries trying to get my son set up at uni. They laughed along with me at the ridiculous packaging I would receive and were so gracious, thoughtful and helpful. The owners of this hotel and their guests are incredibly lucky to have such amazing staff to look after them. With more trips to Colchester coming, this will be my choice every time. I look forward to their welcoming smiles and a perfectly made espresso martini! Thank you so much for turning a difficult and stressful trip into a fantastic experience. Truly one of a kind!

Quirky and incredibly well designed hotel! It can’t be easy remodeling a +500 year old hotel. Location was perfect! Downtown Colchester, walkable to shops and restaurants. Modern amenities, fabulous decor, great location and incredible customer service! I really enjoyed staying in the historic hotel.

I was very pleasantly surprised by my stay at The George hotel. In my opinion it is good enough to be a 4 star hotel not a 3 as advertised. The decor, the staff and cooked breakfast was marvellous, perfect poached eggs. The staff were all friendly too. Will definitely stay there again when I am in town. Thank you 😊

This was an excellent and comfortable option in the heart of Colchester. The room benefited from air con on such a hot weekend and we were in a quiet part of the hotel. Breakfast was cooked to order - my other half would have liked a fresh fruit salad (a basked of fruit was provided, to be fair). Unfortunately the WiFi was patchy throughout the building, not just in our room. If I’d had to do work it would have been impossible. We certainly couldn’t have watched a film online. If this could be sorted I’d say the hotel was worth 5 stars.

Excellent stay again. Staff very friendly. Lovely food. The hotel was really busy as they had two weddings during our stay. The cleanliness however was not up to its previous standard.
