  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

Clean, Comfortable, Safe

The stay was absolutely amazing. 5 stars, my wife and I enjoyed a comfortable clean room. Plenty of parking, near our destinations we needed to travel to. Late at night while smoking, felt safe. Breakfast is also included in the morning and access to ice and a gym. I would recommend this place

It was a very nice place to stay. It was very quiet place and close to food that is walking distance. It was very clean in the room and plenty of room if you had a more than 2 people that’s all I had staying there.

Staff was friendly. That was the only real positive. Cleanliness and maintenance were an issue. Towels were worn and stained, the bed was so worn out when you sit down you can feel the strings in the mattress. Also, the air conditioning did not blow enough cool air to keep the room at a comfortable temperature.

The staff were very nice and helpful. Unfortunately the place is very run down. We changes rooms as first room was dirty. 2nd room was only marginally better. Have outlets didn't work, a/c didn't work properly and walls had stains that looked like throw up. Staff though tried very hard to be helpful during stay.

Staff did their best, but the sink in bathroom could not empty water, the shower sprayed all over the place, the hallway carpets were stained dirty, the noisy refrigerator kept me awake during the night. Some of the furniture was decrepit; the back parking lot was dark and desperately needs lighting to discourage would be theives, etc. A bad experience, but I trust for the immigrant people who seem to be running the place that attention can be given to bring this facility to a higher rating. It certainly has a great location.

The front desk staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The room however was dark. Lampshades were ripped, bathroom light didnt even work. The tv speaker sounded like it was busted.

Check in wasn’t friendly, carpet leading to room needs replaced, very dirty and not good. Rooms are small, bathrooms in room are not clean, lots of stains, no hot water, not enough towels for everyone in the room, the bathtub felt like it was gonna go through the floor. Room was ok, AC barely worked.

Overall outdated property, strange smells, not great bathroom lighting, and the surrounding area was not great, it's not anywhere someone should walk around on foot without a car in reach. The pavement is cracked in the parking lot, and the entrances are not very accessible. No ramps, etc. If you have physical disabilities, this property will be very challenging for you. The price is decent, location for concerts for people who don't want to camp is ideal, but this is a bare minimal kinda spot.
