"We stayed during September, when temperatures reached the early to mid-30sC.There were a few issues. We found ants on the kitchen work surfaces, so everything had to be kept in the fridge. Insect screens on the windows, and the front door, would be useful.The bed linen wasn't great. White sheets would look much nicer than the coloured, mismatched bedding, which appeared rather tatty. However, the bed was very comfortable.The bedroom air-conditioning unit is noisy, making it difficult to sleep with it switched on. Given the high temperatures, this was a problem. The poolside furniture also needs replacing, as it is worn and some items are broken.A few provisions could be improved. Two bin bags are not enough for a week, while the toilet and kitchen rolls were poor quality. A small welcome pack, perhaps including Monchique water, coffee pods for the machine, and local wine or beer, would be a lovely touch.Despite this, we had a wonderful stay. The house is old, charming and full of character. Kitchen is well equipped. Bathroom shower is excellent. Location is perfect, a few minutes’ drive from Monchique. It is quiet, relaxing and secluded, with outstanding views and a wonderful sense of privacy. The private pool was fabulous and lovely to return to after a day out.We enjoyed evenings on the terrace, barbecuing, stargazing and watching the lizards.Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return. With a few simple improvements this could be an exceptional place to stay."
