Sleepy Oaks Cottage is the perfect place for a couple or small family to get away from all the distractions of modern living and enjoy the simple peace and harmony of country life at its best. The small house has been completely refurbished and is now open as a special vacation rental. Best of all it is situated on beautiful Potts Creek, one of Virginia’s premier trout streams. Hikers will appreciate out your door access to hiking trails on the 300 acre property as well as proximity to thousands of acres of George Washington and Jefferson National Forest where all sorts of wildlife abounds.
A fire pit on the patio is a great place to relax on cool summer evenings and the horse shoe pits offer endless friendly competition and camaraderie.
Built in the late 1980s, the cottage offers one bedroom, a small kitchen and dining area and a living room with a pullout couch that sleeps two comfortably. An upstairs loft has been converted to a reading nook and game room complete with a great selection of books. Along with the fire pit, the patio has a table with four chairs for outdoor dining or just looking into the surrounding fields and mountains full of game and a great variety of birds.
For those who just can’t cut the cord to civilization, the cottage offers cable TV, a land based phone and Wi-Fi.
Camping provisions are just 10 minutes away at general stores in Paint Bank to the South or Boiling Springs to the North towards Covington. When you have had enough hot dogs and beans, Paint Bank offers world class country eating at the Swinging Bridge Restaurant. They even serve up a variety of Buffalo dishes from the herd kept on the 3,000 acre property.
If your idea of well spent time includes reasonable rates, friendly helpful hosts, a beautiful environment in the company of family and friends and a bold natural setting with the backdrop of a strong flowing creek, you will find it here in Southern Alleghany County a stone throw from the West Virginia line.
