Canaan Valley is an upland valley in northeastern Tucker County, West Virginia, USA. Within it are extensive wetlands and the headwaters of the Blackwater River which spills out of the valley at Blackwater Falls. It is a well-known and partially undeveloped scenic attraction and tourist draw, associated with the Canaan Valley Resort State Park and the Blackwater Falls State Park.

Canaan Valley was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974. The National Park Service citation indicates that the Valley is 'a splendid 'museum' of Pleistocene habitats containing an aggregation of these habitats seldom found in the eastern United States. It is unique as a northern boreal relict community at this latitude by virtue of its size, elevation and diversity.' Since 1994, almost 70% of the Valley has become the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, the nation's 500th National Wildlife Refuge.

Perfect place to stay

Perfect place to stay in the middle of hiking and other activities. Quiet and nice view off the balcony. Fire place worked and is very easy to use the provided log. room was clean and we had everything we needed. We ended up staying an extra day and the price was great! If I ever come back I might try one of the cabins.

This is a gem

This property far exceeded my expectations. Extremely large room and also a very large bathroom. Reminded me of a ski Chalet. Very easy to get to the parks and to the different towns. My friend stayed in another location and paid double forforfour or less.

Great for a peaceful getaway

Used the cabin for a conference stay while my husband traveled with me. It was a nice get away and he was able to relax and enjoy the quiet time while I was gone each day. The inside of the room was clean and had anything we needed. I would’ve liked to seen more cleanliness to the outside of the facilities in hallways and steps, it was a little concerning when we arrived, but thankfully the inside was clean! Everyone was great and easy to work with. We will definitely return if back in the area.

Perfect skiing retreat

This room was an incredible value and was spotless when we arrived. Cameron, the property owner was very responsive, and check in was very easy. The room has a great view of Timberline when it's lit up at night. It's only about 10 minutes from Davis and the slopes. The Jacuzzi was great after a day of skiing. Will definitely be staying here next time we're in Canaan Valley. One warning though: make sure you have AWD/4WD if you're going up during significant snowfall, because the road down to the unit is pretty steep.

It was quiet and pretty clean. I was disappointed to find out the pool was not open when we arrived, it was one of the main reasons I booked this room. I couldn’t find the dvd player, and it rained pretty good during one day and I was hoping to use it that day. The toilets don’t flush very good so that was a constant worry also.

Almost Heaven

We couldn’t have asked for more! The Canaan Valley and this property were way beyond our expectations. For two people, it’s ideal. It is comfortable, spacious, close to Davis, Thomas, Dolly Sods, state parks, preserves and refuges. The price is very affordable in the low season. The entire property is gorgeous and immaculately landscaped. The view from our third-floor inn suite was tremendous. We enjoyed waking in the morning to the mountains and watching the curtain of mist and clouds rise over the mountains and sitting on the covered deck at night watching the curtain of darkness fall on the mountains while the sky revealed more stars than we’ve seen in a long time. On our last night, a lighting display that backlit the clouds in the distance was a sight to behold, something we may never see again in our lifetimes. We watched it for an hour. Because there is so much to see and do in the area, we didn’t even have time to take advantage of amenities, such as the indoor fireplace, outdoor fire ring and jacuzzi tub in our suite. Can’t recommend this rental or this area of W. Va. enough! We immersed ourselves in the local hiking and walking trails, kayaking opportunities, scenery, culture and history and met so many wonderful locals. There aren’t many restaurants, but they are all great and unique. We will be back. Thank you, Cameron, for giving us memories to last forever.

Consider this an opportunity for improvement OFI. Nice size room, access was easy and kitchenette was nice but there was no sink, please get rid of the ugly shelf closet with a shower curtain in the main room, the bathroom shower curtain was disgusting and dirty, underneath the bed and lamp was dirty and dusty, the windows were dirty, the rug, cloth shower curtain and bed quilt were from a flea market- its “Black Bear Resort” so presentation of bear themes might attract repeat customers. There were pictures of birds on the wall which were nice, but there were no bear pictures, except for a cartoon bear cut-out in the bathroom and you might want to cover up the screws and clean and stain the trim.

The balcony view was beautiful and calming, and the sunrise was the most beautiful we’ve ever seen. The bed was extremely comfortable. The wind chime was a nice touch when the wind blew. It made us smile..The location could not be more perfect right in the middle of everything you want to see in the cane Valley and surrounding area. Mountain State brewing in Thomas and Stumptown L in Davis were two of our favorite stops.
