The hotel looked nothing like the pictures posted on expedia. It was under renovation but it really looks like an abandoned hotel. The garage had little to no lighting so the walk to and from my car was always an eerie one. Once inside, the receptionist was friendly but everything was closed. There were two men who were working and though they were friendly, I just didn't feel safe. The room was clean but smelled a little musty. I noticed a lot of dead bugs on top of the windowsill. I wasn't sure if they had bedbugs so I slept on my sheet from home and covered the pillow with my towel. I was so uncomfortable that I could not use anything from the room. I spent one night and checked out early the next morning. Upon checking out, No one was to be find. The place was completely desolate. I could not reach a receptionist or anything to assist me with my checkout. This was the worst experience I have ever had. I should have known the price was low for a reason.
We usually love this old hotel. It has such great character. But this time the "new" heating system would only blow super hot air and the a/c would not come on. We slept with the window open! The owners have big plans for the place but renovations are SLOW.

Concerned and confused
We tried calling twice before arrival after reading reviews but no one answered. When we arrive, no one was at the front desk and after 15 minutes, a maintenance person appeared and he tried to page her. We were finally given a room on the 9th floor but the elevator wouldn't work to take us there. We were changed to the 4th floor. The pool, hot tub, restaurant, lounge were ALL CLOSED due to the renovations. Glad this is behind me. My husband said he would return but only after the renovations are completed. I'm not sure if I would.

Dissapointment because was underconstruction
Empty downtown with an aged hotel. Looks run down and we felt uncomfortable.
This hotel is apparently "under renovation"; I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The photographs online must be very old as they do not reflect the dilapidated state of this hotel. The bar, restaurant, fitness room etc were all closed. I would encourage hotels.com to remove this hotel from its listings until any renovation is completed.
This is not the first time I have stayed here. I remember when the restaurant was open. Now you can't even get vending. We stayed here last October and the renovations were taking place then too, but it doesn't seem like any improvements had been made. It's unfortunate because I think this could be a gorgeous hotel.
Our room was pretty clean at least! The bathroom could have used a little more TLC.
I am not sure we will stay here next year in October.
Ants on night stand beside bed.No room ( Maid Service ) 2nd day.Everything seemed to closed
due to renovation.Poor TV reception remote for on&off,Had to set on bed to watch TV with couch & chair at the other end of room. Was informed at check in that Muffins & Coffee would be available
in Lobby at 6:30 til 9:30 AM,I went to Lobby 2nd day at approx 7:15 AM.no coffee no Muffins. On
9-22-15 I paid you $302.37 the hotel charged me 151.00 at check out.I think I got screwed,what
do you think.

Renovation???????????
When I see "under renovation" I think "some rooms unavailable", maybe more noise than usual. We were arriving in the late afternoon and leaving at check-out the following day so no worries. The truth was that the pool, the gym, the restaurant and the bar were closed. No vending. The ice machine on our floor was broken. No fridge in the space provided. It put a huge damper on our weekend.
I ended up not checking after driving to the location, walking in the lobby and waiting for service. Heard guests from previous night complaining about their room and inquiring about a theft. Went up on the elevator and saw the shambles they were describing, Tried to talk to manager and then called Expedia only to learn my stay was not refundable due to it was a "hot deal" I told them it was false advertising as this hotel was listed as a 3.5 star deal with no disclosure of the renovation -not even on the hotel's website !
The hotel was under construction, which was not noted when I booked. Most of their facilities were closed down. Parking is in an unlit, run-down garage, which made me feel very uncomfortable as a woman traveling alone. The room was a mess with used tissues sitting on the register, along with a used latex glove. There were hairs on the bed spread and the trash wasn't emptied.
I already rate it was it need a lot of renovation not clean lobby furniture was nasty to scare to sit on it dead bugs I. room. No was up and running the gym was not ready bar was not ready pool was not ready restaurant was not ready it wasa dump.
Hotel under major construction unbeknownst to me when the reservation was made months ago. You can only enter the hotel from the unattended and dark parking garage. The one person working at the hotel was sitting at a make shift desk in the "lobby". Absolutely none of the listed amenities were available due to the construction. The room was very outdated and in disrepair. The hotel is completely misrepresented in the listing.
I stayed at the Grand two years ago, and it was under renovation, so I was understanding then. Now, I am not. The condition has gotten so much worse. The lobby area looks like something that could exist in a war zone. I like the location of the hotel, but there is nothing else to recommend it. Nothing. Pretty much everything is broken, and it looks like it has been for awhile. The signs out front don't even say Dayton Grand. They just say Hotel. Don't go there.

Homecoming 2015
The hotel was under construction, no elevator for the parking lot
it was like a haunted house from the parking to entrance and the inside of the hotel. I checked in and was so scared to stay there that I left hotel within 5 minutes. I then went to Crown Plaza and stayed there for a night. The hotel is not even 1% of what is shown in the pictures. It is a deserted hotel where ghosts live.

Great hotel undergoing restoration
We were very pleased with our room. It was large, comfortable, quiet, included a refrigerator, decent TV, and even a room with sofa and chairs, free wireless that worked very well, and location was very good.

Great hotel
Stayed two nights and two full days. Required an early check in on very late notice for the hotel and they were equipped to handle my request. Did at one point have a slight problem with my room and it was handled in about 5 minutes and ended up being an upgraded room for me and it was wonderful. Love the location and had a great time. The renovations aren't convenient but I'm sure it will be worth it later on. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the bed was so comfortable! Look froward to staying in November.
Firstly - Expedia - how disappointing that you hide the FACTS way down on the website - Secondly remodeling does not begin to describe the mess we experienced!
Paying prime $$$ for the additional filth was too much. DO NOT be taken in by the pictures.
- card table check in
- everything closed
- elevator - out of service (we were offered the freight elevator but opted to take stairs ( got trapped in stairs until able to kick door open)
Room features:
- closet door, broken
- lamp, broken
- vents, filthy
- blankets, ripped (we paid an additional cost for our child to be in the room and waited an extra 25 minutes for bedding to arrive.
- suspicious brown ish dark stains on walls
- plug sockets - wires a jumbled mess
- dirty floors
- TV remote broken
If they remodel down stairs their future guests are going to get A SHOCK when they walk into a room.
Never experienced a hotel like it!!!
Can I get a refund?????????
Hotel is under massive renovation. Checked in at a card table not this gorgeous lobby like the picture showed on Expedia. Big chips in tub and overall dirty. First and last time I will stay there or use Expedia !

Undergoing renovation
The hotel is undergoing a two-year renovation. We were under the impression that the hotel lobby was under construction but the whole hotel is in dire need of upgrade. It has a flair of 1995, a funky smell but clean and helpful staff. If you are willing to put up with a reno, this is the place for you. Great location in the heart of Dayton. Free parking, WIFI. Cheap. On par with a Comfort Inn.
