By far the coolest place we have ever stayed. The Vintages trailer park in Dayton Oregon is a campground where you can stay in old vintage trailers that have been restored. See more of my work at www.tmcewenphotography.com

This blockhouse was originally part of Fort Yamhill from 1856-1866. The eight-sided design made it easier to defend, as rifle ports could be placed every 45 degrees instead of every 90 degrees.

In its later years the blockhouse was used as a jail before being rescued and relocated to Dayton in 1911.
A charming restaurant now inhabits this pioneer house that dates to 1857. It was built by - you guessed it - Joel Palmer, who led an Oregon Trail wagon train in 1845 and helped scout and clear a pass through the Mount Hood foothills. He settled here in 1847, after returning to Indiana to fetch his family and lead a second wagon train along the trail.
Dessert was nicely plated and refreshing for a summer evening.
