The Denniston incline was one of the steepest Railway lines in New Zealand. They used it to transport coal from the mines to the city. It seems crazy to me that even people were transported in these wagons

"Awesome little stopover property! Although the heat inside the bus is largely dictated by the tempterature outside, the hosts have fans/heaters to combat this. The outdoor shower is awesome, and everything in town (dinner, groceries, swimming) is walkable!"

"A bit of a surprise to find we (4) were sharing the house with the owners, plus a Canadian. We had thought that our 4 were going to have a bedroom each, as per the BookaBach description of the property. Two guys had to share a room.The owners were a delightful, very helpful Chinese couple, who made us welcome and accommodated our Ebikes in their garage to recharge. "

"Owner and property manager provided all details up front, self check in easy. We knew they would sssist promptly if any issues, we had no issues at all. Fully equipped, easy walking distance to lighthouse and seal colony viewing and a beach walk. Super quiet, except the wonderful pounding of the ocean waves. We would return in a minute. "

He also had several recommendations for our follow journey to the Marlborough area. One of the best accommodations in our two month trip to New Zealand!"
