Reception staff were amazingly welcoming and felt immediately at home. Restaurant staff were friendly and the shift manager (Beth) introduced herself and said if we had any issues please see her immediately. First class staff at at first class hotel.

Pleasant Stay with a Few Hiccups

We had a mostly positive experience at the Holiday Inn Derby Riverlights. Check-in was smooth, and the staff were genuinely lovely—friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and comfortable overall, though the bathrooms could use a little attention, particularly the grout, which appeared brown or dirty in places. Unfortunately, one of our rooms had an issue with the air conditioning. We had chosen the hotel in part because it advertised AC, but despite contacting the front desk, we were told it was motion activated. It never turned on and during the night, and we woke up hot and uncomfortable. Meanwhile, the other room we booked had perfectly functioning AC from the beginning. We would have appreciated more urgency or support in resolving the issue at the time. Overall, the hotel has potential for a great stay with a bit more attention to maintenance and responsiveness.

Very pleasant staff. Very poor air conditioning. Had to have window open, but disturbed by noisy and pub and bus station throughout the night. Bed absolutely appalling - sinking in the middle and lumpy.

The room was standard but ok. The heating was off and was freezing and took a long time to warm up. The hotel was very loud and guest shouting up the corriders at night. The reason we booked here was because breakfast was included. We were informed that all the ovens were broken and there was only cereal and bread and we got rushed out of the restaurant soon after.

I chose this property as it was directly on top of the bus station (we were going to see Black Sabbath in Birmingham, had coach tickets from Derby to Villa Park, and the pick up point was Derby bus station). There was no parking on site, but the secure parking on Bold Lane is between a 5 and 10 minute walk from the hotel. I can't fault anything about the hotel - it was clean, the room was a good size, all the usual things were provided - towels, shower gel, shampoo, tea and coffee. There was a fridge in our room (don't know whether this is standard in all the rooms). All the staff that we had any dealings with - reception, bar staff, cleaners, dining room - without exception were brilliant. Friendly and helpful, you felt nothing was too much trouble. Special shout out to Bethany, the (for want of a better description) Maitre d' - when we went for breakfast, she said if we wanted anything, such as pancakes, that wasn't on the breakfast buffet, to just ask. She also came round topping up your fruit juice when she wasn't greeting customers. The breakfast choice was excellent - there was a healthy option section, a hot buffet section, and a section with tea, coffee, cereal and fruit juices. I can't really comment on the area around the property, as we didn't arrive until about 9pm on the Friday night, we were up and out of the hotel for 8.30am on the Saturday morning, back there at 1am Sunday morning and left to go home at 10.30am on Sunday.

This hotel was booked months ago and not sure and got to answer to the selection process who gets room who doesn’t… very disappointed. This was a large concert on in derby which we travelled for.. thanks to hotels . Com we found accommodation

Excellent location, super helpful receptionist

Excellent, very central location but still very quiet. ENORMOUS and really comfy bed, large room and very clean. Only downside was the aircon wasn't working but it didn't get too hot. Huge thank you to Jess on reception who was able to give me my key before official check-in time and HOURS before I got back ridiculously late. She also got my bag put in the room while I was out so I only had to think about getting in and falling asleep at the end of a VERY long day. Brilliant customer service :-)

We booked a room with two beds and they moved us to a room with only one double bed. Unsurprisingly, they didn't reduce the cost.

Clean property with excellent service from all the staff however to be told on arrival that the air conditioning is out of service and has been for a while is unnacceptable. This lead to a sleepless night as it was unbearbly hot with the fan provided not helping. Unable to open the window due to noise from the bus station outside, including a group of people sat outside playing music and shouting for hours. Check before you book whether it has been sorted.

The room wasn’t very clean and very warm. They had an AC which doesn’t work well. And a fan. But again, the fan wasn’t very quiet. Randomly there would be some noise of either the lights of fan that would go on for a while and then stop. Bathroom wants every clean either, and all round a very average room to stay in. Staff were lovely.

The air conditioning wasnt working and hadnt for a long time judging by the reviews . we were told its ok the window opens and you have a fan and bottles of water . One fan for 3 people , loud pub with karaoke till midnight , all of us had very little sleep. if i had known about the a/c i would have booked somewhere else , yet we werent informed until the day we arrived when it was too late ! i expect more from Holiday inn The staff and breakfast were great though .

There is no mention of this on web site the entrance and first two floors are a building site. There really should be a warning about this - this is not a fully operational hotel. rooms are drab are poorly equipped. no complaint about the staff they were great but this is not the standard one used to expect for a holiday inn. perhaps it is now aiming at 2 star market
