Chonor House is one of the best small hotels in that small corner. I like the large balcony with mountain views. The room is equipped enough for guest’s conveniences. The only problem was the water source, smelly but looked clean.
A slice of heaven. A real gem in McLeod Ganj and my favorite hotel by far. The sweet staff, amazing painted rooms, the atmosphere is exceptional - a wonderful view. I’ve stayed 4 times and it’s one of my favorite places to come back to. Can’t wait to come back again!

The staff at Chonor House are more than helpful. Everyone is pleasant and friendly. The decor is lovely and the terrace is a beautiful place to chill.
Had a lovely stay at Chonor House. The hotel has beautiful Tibetan interiors and is a minute from the Dalai Lama Temple complex.
There were some issues we had at the property - there seems to be a problem with the plumbing throughout and on one occasion, we found cockroaches at the breakfast area, but the staff was very nice and made changes as requested - changing rooms and changing the entire breakfast spread. Tenzing and Pelki (hope the spelling is right) are really helpful, and a special word of thanks to Pelki who seemed like one of the most competent managers I've seen, and very friendly. Owing to the unique circumstances we found ourselves in (with the threat of war with Pakistan), they even waived our charges for meals we had there.
(One word of caution for those with walking difficulties, the hotel is located on a steep slope and has a few steps to climb once you're there.)
Chonor House is a gem and an ideal place to stay in McLeod Ganj/Dharamsala for those interested in Tibetan culture and the Dalai Lama. It's just a short walk from the Main Temple where the Dalai Lama addresses the public from time to time and where you can see daily debates among the monks as well as sacred and beautiful Buddhist objects. Another monastery is even closer, and monks regularly drank tea and ate alongside us in the Chonor House restaurant. The hotel is affiliated with the Norbulingka Institiute, which works to preserve the techniques of Tibetan art, so Chonor House is beautifully decorated in the Tibetan style and has free passes to Norbulingka itself. Enthusiastically recommended!
I loved this hotel. I'm an American who was visiting after working in Delhi for a week. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was wonderful. They booked our ride to the airport and they booked us a half day tour with a cab one afternoon go around Dharamshala. It's easy walking distance to basically everything but isolated enough to not ear car horns all night. I would happily stay here again.
